REGULAR SLUGS OR RIFLED SLUGS

Can somebody settle this argument, I went hunting with a couple of my buddies this morning. They were shooting those cheap $1.59 cent slugs out of full rifled slug guns. I told them that those cheap non rifled slugs was going to ruin there rifleing !!!! Does any body know if they will hurt a rifled barrel ?

Rifled slugs are designed for a smooth bore barrel and Sabot slugs are designed for rifled barrels. There are some economically priced Breneke slugs that go both ways.

Fletch,

They will not hurt the rifleing, but will start to fill it with lead which will decrease accuracy. I've seen some rifled barrels shoot winchester super-X rifled slugs quite well. I have also seen a remington 870 rifled barrel throw slugs 6" apart at 50 yards using winchester super-X rifled slugs. It will not ruin the barrel, but defeats the purpose of having a rifled barrel.
