You guys are missing the whole story here.

How much is a box of 30-06 ammo. On sale at Wallie World for $8-$12 if you buy at the right time.

How much is a box of 25-06?? Twice as much. With custom bullets it is 3 or 4 times more.

How much is a box of 260 ammo?? At least as much as the 25-06!! If not more!!

You can buy some 243 ammo for a decent price-sometimes. But it is still more expensive.

And I would hardly say that a 30-06 "Kicks you around".

A hunter can buy 3 or 4 boxes of ammo and practice with his rifle for the same price as the more expensive ammo that you guys are suggesting.

A hunter is also suppose to be a shooter. And you guys are saying you are scared of the recoil of a 30-06?? I surely hope you guys never have to shoot a rifle that really recoils!!

And if you do not like the 30-06 then shoot a 308. Do you really believe there is a lot of recoil difference between a 150 grain 308 and a 140 grain 260?? I do not think so. However you still have the better bullet construction of a 30 caliber. How can you guys possibly believe that a 30 caliber bullet is surpassed by a 243 caliber bullet??

And StalkingBear I know you would not expect anything less from me than to stick to my guns if I really believe something to be true. As I would expect from you. Tom.

I'm not going to jump on the 30 cal discussion. I currently own a 30-30 and a 300 Win. mag. Figured that the 30-30 was my brush gun so if I was going to jump up to a flatter shooting 30 it might as well be the 300 mag. Back to the subject at hand... out of the 3 you have listed, I've been thinking a long time about getting a 25-06. Until recently when I started looking at BC and SD of the 6.5mm (.264) bullets. I've recently started leaning more toward the 260 for long range deer hunting. I think down the road I may wind up getting a 22-250 or 223 for a dedicated varmint round, but for now the 260 is where I am leaning. JMHO as I've not shot either of the rounds you have mentioned.

of the three (243, 25-06, and 260), which do you prefer for most north american game in the size range of coyote to white tails, and why do you prefer that one over the others. Although ballistics dont mean everything to me, which is better ballistically speaking?
Here's the original post.....The poster does not ask about the .30-06 or the .308.....assuming he already knows about these options and has ruled them out.

You guys are missing the whole story here.
We're not missing the story at all. YOU are completely missing the point and your opinions are utterly non-responsive to the question that was asked. If you want to promote .30-cals, then start your own thread. THIS thread asked about the .243, .25-06 and .260. It did NOT ask anything about .30's.

How much is a box of 30-06 ammo. On sale at Wallie World for $8-$12 if you buy at the right time.

How much is a box of 25-06?? Twice as much. With custom bullets it is 3 or 4 times more.

You can buy some 243 ammo for a decent price-sometimes. But it is still more expensive.
I've never priced ammo for a .25-06 or .260, as I don't own either of them. But, I've NEVER been to a store that charged more for a box of .243's than it did for a box of comparable .30-06's. The only way you get cheaper prices for a .30-06 is if you buy surplus garbage, and you can't hunt with that.

And I would hardly say that a 30-06 "Kicks you around".
Some folks find .30-06 recoil to be pretty stout. And, it's twice that of a .243. So, relatively speaking, it kicks you around.

A hunter can buy 3 or 4 boxes of ammo and practice with his rifle for the same price as the more expensive ammo that you guys are suggesting.
See above.

A hunter is also suppose to be a shooter. And you guys are saying you are scared of the recoil of a 30-06?? I surely hope you guys never have to shoot a rifle that really recoils!!
Yeah, you're right. We're all a bunch of sissies.

At least we've got enough sense to stay on point. The gentleman already has two .30-06's and wants a weapon in the .24-.26 range. Answer the question, or find another thread ...

Depends on what you're after. For game in the range of coyotes to deer, which is what was asked.... There's not a darn thing wrong with .243's. At all.

And StalkingBear I know you would not expect anything less from me than to stick to my guns if I really believe something to be true. As I would expect from you. Tom.
You can stick to your guns all you want. If the question asked was "of the four (243, 25-06, 260, and 308), which do you prefer for most north american game in the size range of coyote to white tails, and why do you prefer that one over the others. Although ballistics dont mean everything to me, which is better ballistically speaking?" Then your stated opinion would matter. But, that's not what was asked. People do that all the time on here. You could practically have someone asking whether a .22-250 or .220 Swift made a better varmint rifle, and someone would chime in that you should be using a .50 BMG...

I never said you were. But if the shoe fits then wear it.

I will admit that I went off topic. But I do not believe there is a poster on this site that has not done that a time or two.

It sounds to me like you took things a little personel. I can not figure out why?? But so be it. Tom.

You're the one who said "let the flames begin"... I let that original "challenge" go, until you continued posting about .30's even after the original poster said he's already got two .30-06's and that he's looking for advice from folks who have experience with smaller calibers.

You began trying to pick an argument by telling guys to "buck it up," and later suggested that the only reason to shoot smaller bores is if "you have a physical problem," and fabricate the assertion that guys on the thread have said they're "scared" of .30-06 recoil, when no one said any such thing. Guys have said the .243 has less recoil, that weapons with lighter recoil are more fun to shoot, that the .30's are more than needed for whitetails. Nothing in there about being scared.

Apparently you are unable to recognize sarcasm... The shoe doesn't fit. I doubt you'd make that little innuendo face to face.

Just got off the phome with a friend. Hes 8 year old daughter took her first deer this morning, an 8 pointer. She took it with a .243 using 55 gr silver tips. He aid it broke a rib going in and one going out, the deer took 10 steps and fell. Ive wondered about that bullet. He said it liquifed the lungs.
