Wood Stock Replacements?

All -

I have two guns which I like very much. One is a Rem. 700 in .308 and the other is a Rem Genesis ML. Both of these have synthetic stocks which I'm not sure I really like. I am used to older wooden stocks. Not tattles or weird noises when they scrape against brush of your body.

I was wondering if I had options to replace the OEM stocks with wooden ones. Not knowing much about my options, was hoping to hear form folks who may have done this already with some of their guns.

The remington model 700 will be extremely easy to restock with wood as there's dozens of wood stock options out there, even remington factory wood stocks. The genisis is a whole different ballgame however.

I think Boyd's gunstocks offer wooden replacements for the 700 Rems, and I bought a new 700 CDL stock from Sportsman's Warehouse for less than $100 a little while ago. There are others too. Accurate Innovations thru Midway has them with bedding block already installed, but the last time I checked, they were on back order. Other sources are out there...it takes a little looking around.

The nice thing about midway's backorder is 95% of the time I get it less than a week later.

you can also go with a laminate stock, the gun in the middle of this picture is a rem model 700 in 300 win mag, with a richards microfit stock on it. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...fynra/guns.jpg

Thanks guys. I will visit the places mentioned and do a bit of clicking.

Would the Genesis be tough because their not that popular or because it is a ML? Curious.

Any pit falls I should avoid?

I'm not familiar with the Genesis. I don't know the type of stock it currently wears...meaning I don't know if it is a full stock muzzeloader or other. You may want to check stock suppier's ads and see if they have a stock duplicating machine. If they advertise so, you could contact them and find out if they could duplicate the current stock in wood for your gun. Also be sure to ask them the amount of fitting you would have to do to fit it to your gun. Some advertise as completely ready to bolt on, some are not. Be sure to check it out. The same holds true for a 700 stock. Ask. Have fun...........
