FFL Dealers transfer
 

Will a FFL Dealer transfer a long gun from a non FFL holder or address?
Just curious.
Will there be a transfer of ownership taking place legally then?

I see you are from NJ. They have recently changed some of their transfer and ownership laws. The best bet is contact a local dealer to be sure. Ifyou will send me your zip code I will locate you ahonest dealer next to you for the information you desire.

I want to make sure I understand your question....

You're wondering if your FFL, who will transfer the firearm to you, will accept a firearm from a non-FFL holder (in or out of state)?

If that's what you're asking, then the answer is, "it depends on your FFL"

I don't know the rule changes that RugerMike refers to, but some FFL's will accept from a non-FFL, and some won't. I believe that absolutely CAN receive a firearm from a non-FFL, but it's their choice.

I'll check some FFLs and see their position on such a transaction.
We are just trying to do it legally.

What you are trying to do should be legal.

I bought a shotgun form a guy on another forum a few months ago.

Essentially I needed to send the seller (individual) a copy of the FFL's current license.

The firearm is packaged and shipped (I believe UPS) to the FFL
The out of state seller needs to include a copy of their drivers license with the firearm.
The FFL receives the gun, and waits for you to come in to finish filling out the transfer forms.

They will normally ding you for between $30 and $50 for the transfer, and you walk out with your "new to you" gun.

The way I'm used to doing it is I send a hand signed copy of my FFL to the sender FFL holder so there's NO question of legality. I only charge 10$ but I guess I'm a little outdated.

I am speaking from the standpoint of Federal law. A dealer can accept a firearm shipped to him from a non-dealer. He then can transfer it to you as if he had purchased the gun from the non-dealer and sold it to you as an individual buyer. This is all provided the transfer to you would be legal under your state & local laws, of course. Again, the dealer would have to be willing to do the paperwork on the transfer. No doubt, a dealer would collecta reasonable fee for such services....
