The local gun store here that caters to alot of police said they have trouble keeping the XD's in stock because the police buy them in a .45 for a back up gun at home.

Glock is good too, but many, many folks find the grip angle and shape of the XD to be superior to that Glock. I was all set to buy a Glock before holding and shooting an XD. The grip angle and shape were much more comfortable for me. Also like the grip safety.

Another vote for the XD. I have the XD45c that I carry almost daily in my Crossbreed Supertuck. Solid design and eats anything I feed it. I like the way the XD fits my hand better than Glocks...but that's just a personal preference thing. Between the grip safety, trigger safety and striker block safety, the only way it can fire is to intentionally grip the pistol and pull the trigger. The best safety however for any firearm, as we all know, is the lump between our shoulders. No regrets with the XD!

XD(M) if your state laws allow.

Feel is VERY important, particularly with handguns.

I think either one would be a good choice. I have shot my F-I-L's xd and it is a fantastic gun and really feels good when shooting it. But the SR9 feels good to me as well and points very naturally for me so that is what I have my eye on next.
