20 gauge kick compared to a .270?

i have a remington 870 express 20 gauge and i just bought a browning .270 X-bolt. i can shoot the 20 gauge like nothing and i barely feel the recoil now. but how much recoil is the .270 going to have compared to the 20 gauge? any tips on trying to lower recoil? thanks!

Depends on what 20 gauge shell you are shooting.

A light 7/8 ounce load will kick about the same as a .270. A heavy 3" 1-1/4 ounce load will have close to twice as much recoil as the .270.

Assuming you are shooting about a 6.5 -7 pound shotgun and a typical 7.5 - 8 pound rifle.

Yep the 270 will be a cakewalk compared to the 20 gauge. If the 20 gauge dont bother you...dont worry about the 270. Just go enjoy it.

I just ran the numbers on this. IF both guns weighed 7.5 pounds, and you fired a 1-oz load from the 20 ga. and a 130-grain bullet from the .270, both would give about the same recoil- between 17.5 and 18.5 foot pounds... BUT the length of time over which the energy is applied will be different, due to the difference in MV of the projectile mass and the jet effect of the gases at the muzzle..... (the .270 will work faster, and the shotgun will "push".....)

you will have no problem at all with the .270 I shoot my 20 gauge when bird hunting, and then my .270 when in the blind. The recoil is about the same. If you really want to lower the recoil on your .270, have a muzzle break put on the barrel.
