Default 30-06 rem vs 30-06 springfield

It was just brought to my attention that it's two different rounds. Could someone tell me what the difference is between the 30-06 remington and the 30-06 springfield? can the same round be shot out of the same gun?

That's a new one. No such thing as a 30-06 rem as far as i know. People will say "remington 30-06" meaning a reminton chambered for the 30-06 springfield. Is that what you mean?

maybe...i was always under the assumption that the only 30-06 round was the springfield. I was told today that they were different...so I really don't know what is going on.

The only 30-06 is the Springfield. Many people get these mixed up because remington makes guns and ammo in 30-06. These are the type of guys that you don't want to take gun or hunting advice from. But is a common mistake.

I got a Ruger 270 win. last year and my father saw 270 win. stamped on the barrel and said he thought I had a Ruger. I then inlightened him that winchester developed the round and stamped their name on it.

These guys are right-the 30-06 has been around since 1903 when they designed the round for the springfield 1903s. In 1906,they finalized it's design, adopted it,and called it ".30 us government",otherwise known as the 30-06.

Stalkingbear is correct. The .30-'06Sprng stands for .30 caliber who's design was approved and brought into production in 1906 by Springfield Armory who developed the round and the M1903 Springfield Rifle.

ORIGINAL: MISwampDog

It was just brought to my attention that it's two different rounds.
Whoever "brought it to your attention" doesn't know the famous shoe polish from the other noted substance!!

There is BUT ONE .30 caliber, Model of 1906 U.S. Government cartridge. It is the one that was designed at Springfield Armory, first used in the Model 1903 Springfiled rifle, and adopted in the year1906. Between 1903 and 1906, the rifle was made to shoot the .30 cal., Model 1903 cartridge, which is essenttially the same, except the 1903 had a longer neck so it would better handle the 220-grain roundnose bullets in use then.

Yes, there are many thousands of different loadings, but the CARTRIDGE CASE remains the same one for ALL .30/'06 ammo......

ANY rifle in good condition and designed and chambered for the .30/'06 will safely shoot almost any brand of FACTORY LOADED.30/'06 ammo. I said "almost any" because, no doubt, there are exceptions lurking somewhere!
