.264 winchester ?

Ran into one it looks like it going a 100 mpr sitting still. Anyone have experience with one ? Might get it for Western Mule deer and antelope although my little .243 always gets the job done.

Itm is a very good cartridge that simply came out ahead of it's time. I had 1 and it was deadly on whitetails at long range years before beanfield rifles were even thought up.

I have a unfired NIBWinchester Model 70 chambered in this round. It's supposed tobea great long distance round. The 264 would have been a much more popular round if the 7mm Rem Mag hadn't been introduced. I think without looking it up they came out pretty close to the same time.Seems to me it was in the late 50's.

I would highly recommend you have the barrel checked out before buying it. I have a old Speer reloading manual and it says that the 264 Win is very hard on barrels. It says reports that barrels have beenshot out in as little as 500 rounds, declining it's performance to about that of a 270 Win. I have that here in Black and White in that manual, not something I'm making up.

Never owned one but the people I know who did had nothing but praise for it. A very good cartridge.

Def ahead of its time. 6.5mm bullets in common weights have excellent BC and SD. Not a thing wrong with it, and the chances of finding one that has actually been shot enough to be shot out is highly unlikely. More likely someone who doesn't know Hoppes 9 does nothing for copper fouling. This is one that LOVES to be handloaded, factory ammo is notoriously anemic for what the cartridge is actually capable of.

Built one in 1960 on a Mauser action. It was one of the very first .264's in Texas! It had a horrendous muzzle blast - if you fired it towards dusk, the fireball was as big as the Goodyear Blimp (well, not quite, maybe). The factory ammo was loaded so hot it pierced primers, but it never gave the claimed 3200 FPS with the 140-grain bullet. But I did have a 6.5 Gibbs at that time that would do over 3100 with the same bullet and 10 grains LESS powder.........

6.5mm cartridges have never been given the respect they deserve in the U.S. With maybe the exception of the dear old 6.5X55mm Svenski.....

I have always wanted a .264 Win. Mag. I might have to buy it before obama is in office. Good luck.

I have three and a halfboxes of .264 ammo that I'll let go cheap. Of course you'll have to be in LA to get it. Dad's rifle was stolen a long time ago, but I still have the ammo.

I dont rly have all that much expirience with them but ive shot one of my buds 4 or 5 times and its a laser on whitetails i would always recommend it for long range prairie hunting 100%
