You guys are probably getting tired of talking about this, but I have one more question. What are my options in regard to bullet weight in the 7mm-08? I appreciate all of the comments, I've learned a lot about recoil from reading the posts.

All my brother has shot since the 80s is the 140gr CoreLokt...
They do make a 120gr hollow point that I'd have to try if I used a 7mm-08...Might be a little fragile, but I've killed 35 or so with a 85gr hollow point in my .243, so I suspect it would do the job...For most deer hunting the 140 is all you need...

there is a wide variety of factory ammo available for the 7mm-08. hornady lists 3 different 139gr loads. winchester lists 2 different 140 gr loads. remington lists 1 120 gr load and 3 140 gr loads. and federal ammo lists 1 150 gr load and 4 140 gr loads. that's 14 different factory loads......that number is exponentially higher if you reload.

Thanks for all the opinions. This forum helped me make my decision. I've decided on the 7mm-08. Decided to meet in the middle. I'm getting prices on the new A-bolt hunter stainless and the Rem. SPS stainless. Thanks again for the help.

Another option is the .260 Rem, it too is a necked down 308. It most likely would have a little less recoil than the 7-08 (.280 cal) and 308 (.30 cal). I personally haven't shot this round but every one I have spoken to that has, loves it. It is supposedly a very accurate round and is devastating on deer. The 308 and 7-08 are also great rounds, just throwing out another option.

Since I've decided on my caliber I'm torn between brands. I own a couple of A-bolts (which I found yesterday I won't be able to get) and love them. The X-bolt is a little out of my price range. I've narrowed this down to the Rem. 700 SPS stainless and the Ruger Hawkeye Stainless. I have zero experience with Ruger but I think the Rems. feel a little loose. If any one has any experience with these two guns I would appreciate your thoughts.
