I assume that by ".300" you are looking for a .30-caliber, not necessarily a .300 Savage, .300 H&H, .300 Weatherby, etc.??

If you are seeking a deer rifle, don't limit your quest to just .30 caliber rifles. .24, .25, .26, .27, and .28 caliber cartridges can serve just as well as many .30's.

There are so many variables to consider when choosing a caliber. I am not an expert, but it took me 8 months to finally settle on a .270 win. I had a 7mm mag but recoil bothered me so I had a hard time with accuracy. I also wanted a caliber that I could hunt other game with. Now without anticipating recoil I am grouping shots within a half inch @ 100 yards and love shooting this gun.

I suggest you go toa gun shop and look at the used guns in there. Perhaps you can find something to your liking. And most shops have a payment system where you can pay a little at a time until your gun is paid off. Good luck
