Best ammo for Smooth bore
 
I just bought a used rem 870 smooth bore and was wondering what ammo has worked for you guys. Also is there a lighter load available as I may be giving the gun to my 14 year old godson and I am looking for a round with slightly less recoil and pop. Thanks for any advice or help.

You'll ahve to buy a couple of different brands and try for yourself. No two guns shoot the same. I will say in my 870 smoothbore the Winchester XX slugs shoot the best.

I have never found any more accurate slugs than the Brennecke(sp?) Rottweil 2 3/4" slugs.

I have an 870 (doesn't everyone? ;)) and have tried a bunch of different ammo. The best groups I got were from Federal Tru-ball rifled slugs. But then like sjsfire was getting at, this was from my 870. Your 870 might not like Federal Tru-ball.

I'm wondering exactly what kind of shells he's actually wanting. I didn't see anywhere that he stated he wanted slugs.

they make a reduced recoil shell in shot shell & slugs.

I second the brenneke I have been using these for years I dont think I have ever used a 2 3/4 inch though always 3 inch but I grew up if it doesnt give you a shiner when you shoot you did something wrong

another vote for the Federal Tru-ball. 2 3/4"
