RE: Recoil on a 30-06
I would get the 30-06. The recoil is manageable. I just put 25 rounds through mine in preperation for a montana hunting trip i am going on soon.My shoulder has never been sore from shooting it. My brother on the other hand cries like a school girl after 25 rounds through the 7mm Mag !

Shooting the 150's and 165's are not bad at all. When you get to the 180s or 220s that's where you might feel it. Still it is not that bad unless you are talking about a feather weight rifle then all bets are off. My friends 30-06 feather weight kicks worse than my 300 win mag. Now I was shooting 3" berneke slugs the other day and I forgot how much I hated shooting slugs. lol. Those things do recoil. But like the others have said it's more of a push than the sharp recoil of a rifle.

There is a link on Chuck Hawk's website that has a recoil table.
http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm
I have a Remington 870 12GA, a Savage .308, an old Marlin .30-30, (and my old boyhood Marlin .22 rifle now owned by my daughter).
Put some 00 Buck in my Rem 870... It'll thump me really good
Put a slug in my Rem 870... It'll kick the crap outta me.
My .308 rifle has nowhere near the recoil of my 12GA!
The old .30-30 is sweet and doesn't kick at all.

I have a tikka T3 lite in 30-06, out of the box after zeroing at 200 yds I was able to punch 1 inch groups. The recoil pad that is installed in the factory is really great. I found the recoil to be very manageable after shooting two boxes of 150 grain.
