Savage model 111- Anyone have one?
I have a chance to buy a Savage Model 111 in 30-06 for 289.00. Can anyone give me any good or bad about this model?
Thanks, Fred |

If it's in excellent shape buy it. Does it have a scope? what condition?

It's brand new still in the box. It comes with a 3-9x40 junk scope and cheep sling. I am more concerned with accuracy and function in a lesser expensive rifle.

Snatch it up quickly! Savage rifles are well known for their incredible MOA accuracy, right out of the box! Buy it and then ditch the cheap a.$.$. scope, and slap on a nice Bushnell, Burris, or Nikon scope and enjoy! :D[8D]

Buy it. Savage is a good quality gun. Accurate out of the box too.

I have one in .270, my first rifle and have killed a ton of deer with it, out to 300 yards. They are good rifles.

I have one in .30-06. It drives nails.
I've done a lot of research on the model 110 and its variants like the 111. The consensus is that they are extremely accurate and great value. Their reduced expense has to do with the way it's designed. Do a google search with a string of key words like "Model 110," "Savage," and "Nicholas Brewer" (it's designer). You'll find a number of articles. I've got 5-10 printed off and haven't found a negative one yet. If you read the various articles on the gun's history, you'll discover that Brewer was quite innovative in finding less expensive production techniques like lathing instead of more expensive milling. Many of these happen to lend themselves to accuracy. What resulted was a plain jane-even ugly-- gun that worked like a charm and was affordable. By the way, does the gun have the Accutrigger? $289 sounds like a good buy, and it is absolutely a steal with the Accutrigger. |

Friend of mine got the 111 last year at Dicks Sporting Goods for $249 in 300WSM with a stainless barrel and Scope....it was an absolute steal!

Sounds like a pretty good rifle for the money. No it doesn't have an Accutrigger but the trigger seems like a fairly lite pull. It looks like I'll spend the money and try one out. I mostly own leverguns and only a few bolts, but nothing in 30-06, so it sounds it will make a great addition to the arsenal. Thanks toeveryone for your comments, it helped in making my decision.
Thanks again, Fred |
