I had one for years when I was younger and fitted it with a Redfield 2X7 scope. It was accurate but after many yers it started to jam and I finally put it out to pasture.

Ditto to what others have already stated on here.
I have a 742 in 30-06 with a inexpensive Bushnell sittin on Leupold mounts.
Damn good deer rifle , never failed me , I keep it clean and simply does the job .
Its not a tack driver , but will do 1-1/2 to 2 " groups with factory ammo at a 100yds
which is more than adequate for hunting.

The guys at the gun shop haven't got a clue. My rule of thumb is if bad info like that is giving that shop just don't get my business. I heard better information dispensed from the sporting goods counter at Walmart.

On a side note, Neil it's good to hear from you, haven't seen you around these parts lately. Everything OK ?

I have had mine scoped from day one and it is zeroed at 100 yds. loves factory 30/06 federal 150s . 3 shot group 1.25". Trigger is a little stiff could use a clean up. but a damn good rifle!
