What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
Dad sold one of his trap guns and picked up a new Kimber 84 300wsm. We didn't have ideal conditions for sighting in (very windy and leaning across the hood of the pickup) tried 150gr fusion, 165 fusion 150 winchester XP3, all shot to about the same area on the targets, and all were about 3inch groups. Not horrible considering how/when/where we sighted in, but if anyone has a factory load that shoots really nice, throw me a reply, I'd be very interested in hearing it.

My gun likes 180 grain Federal Nosler Partitions

RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
I have the 300 WM, and it especially likes the Winchester Supreme Accubond in 180 grain.
I've always believed the .308 caliber really likes 180gr. |
RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
Mine likes 90% of 180gr loads. I shoot 180gr Winchester Power Points though. Not for accuracy cause im getting 1.5" groups with it but for price. You cant beat $22 a box for ammo out of a 300 WSM.

RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
Thanks guys, he has a box of 180's but for some reason thinks they would be overkill on whitetail. I said at the very least he should shoot them and see if his gun likes them, then decide. Keep the info coming...

Actually anything in a 300wsm could be considered overkill.

While that could be consideredtrue (I shoot the same rifle as your username), Dad already has a .270 andwaslooking long-term with the purchase for potential use by grandson's or myself if any of us ever get into some elk or moose hunting (not that a .270 won't do the trick), and something of value to pass on, so from that aspect I couldn't argue.
The Kimber is really nice. I don't want to, but must admit that it has a better trigger thantheTimney on my Ruger! I have never experienced that on any other rifle. So good feedback, I'd still like to hear more... |

None taken, I knew exactly what you were saying.

RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
Any other suggestions out there?
|
RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
I'd suggest trying Federal Premium, for deer you don't need a Partition but the Accubond's and Ballistic Tips are very consistant, you have to try different loads and see what your gun likes best. Most 30 cal rifles tend to like 180's from what I've seen though.

RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
I shoot 180gr Nosler Accubonds- they give me an inch at 100 yards and two inches at 200.
I"m not sure what scope you have, but Kimber is a GREAT rifle and they are very accruate. |
RE: What shoots the best from your 300WSM?
I was goin try some Federal 165 Nosler Partition from mine but all of my previous rifles in 30 caliber likes 180 grains or more bullets I currently use 180 grain partitions but thinking of trying 180 acubonds also check out www.midwayusa.com I never knew there were some manyfactory loads availablein the 300 WSM
