Long time 700 owners
Long time 700 owners, how long have you had your 700? What kind is it? (cal. & finish) How much do you use it? What do you like the most and least about it. Has it ever let you down?
Ive had a few 700s and quite a few other brands and models in my search for my "go to rifle". Im shooting a 700 mt lss 7-08 this year and Im really happy w/ it so far. I hope it lasts me a long time. |
RE: Long time 700 owners
I have or have had in no particular order -
.260 Mtn. Rifle LSS just like your 7-08 .300 Win Mag LSS .300 Win mag Sendero 25-06 BDL 22-250 ADL 22-250 SPS 7 mm Rem Mag BDL 30-06 BDL (Actually was a model 721) 7mm-08 VLS All were very excellent shooters. The 22-250 SPS is the only one I would not purchase if given a chance to do it over. Cheesy rifle. This is a representation of rifles made between 1960 ( I believe)and 2007 spread pretty evenly thru time. |
RE: Long time 700 owners
Only two but love them,
.243 ADL that I put a american walnut, left handed thumbhole-right hand action stock on .270WSM LH BDL, was a .270 BDL but had it rechambered for .270WSM with greem laminated wood stock My dad has, .30-06 BDL .7mm-08 in the Model Seven All of these guns will shoot close to or under 1" groups with factory ammo @ 100 yds. |

I hope it lasts me a long time. It was a real tac-driver for many years, but the many thousands of rounds that has went down the bbl, has taken it's toll... I was going to get it rebored to 25-243, but i guess i'll leave it alone, as it just doesn't get much use these days. DM |
RE: Long time 700 owners
I still have my first one I bought in 1975. It was a 700BDL in 6mm Remington. It is mostly a safe queen now. MY buddy bought a 700ADL in 30-06 the same day. It is the only rifle he has ever owned. He shoots about 100 rounds a year through it. It has never let him down, and he shoots a lot of deer with it. I think he would break his leg before he would put a scrratch on it. It still looks like new. Tom.

RE: Long time 700 owners
I have had a BDL version in .270 win. since 1985. This is the only rifle I hunt with eventhough I own a few others of different brands. Can't say it has ever let me down. Yes, I've missed a few deer with it, but it surely wasn't the guns fault. I also own a stainless steel heavy barrel version in .22-250 since 1998 which I really don't shoot too often. Other than occasional target practice, I really have no other use for this caliber.

1971 or 72 (Cant remember exact year) 700BDL 30.06. The bluing is still perfect on it and the wood is 90%. Looks great, shoots great!

RE: Long time 700 owners
I've had a 700 BDL in 7 Mag since 1966. It's been dragged all thru Alaska and Canada and the West 48.
It's been used so much I've had to refinish it 3 times. I hated the BDL stock so I found a Classic take off and dropped it in that. That rifle has taken a lot of game and has never failed me. I have a 700 ss in 06 that is my go to gun. Reworked a few things on it. It's a nail driver. (pillar bedded tuperware stock, bedded the recoil lug, free floated, tuned the trigger) I have a model 7 ss in 308. Threw the trigger in the trash and put a Shilen on it. That's my high altitude rifle. Sweet to carry. I recently picked up a 700 Varmint in 308. Deadly accurate. I have a 722 in 222. I'll put that old dog up against any body for pink slips. And last but not least a 721 in 300 H@H. It was my Dad's. I totally restored it. The trigger fell apart so I put a Timney on it. Now this is a great rifle. I rarely shoot it. But it holds it's own extremely well. I'm keeping that one at the ready for a special hunt next year. I've read about several isolated issues people have had with the 700. I've never experienced any. They are all that I use in the field. T |

Had a Rem 700 XCR in .30-06 for the past 2 years. It is extremely accurate. I really like it.

RE: Long time 700 owners
I have been using 700's since I was old enough to hunt. I used my dad's rifles, until I left the house and got my own. I currently have nine model 700's, in calibers ranging from .223AI to .375 H&H, and I've got a couple of 700 actions stuck aside for future projects.
Oh, yeah. I like them! |
