Nedd more offerings in a 140gr for the .270win
 

Why dont more manufactures make a 140gr non premium bullet for the .270win? When loaded in other calibers like the 7mm-08, .264win mag and several other claibers the ballistic coefficient is better than the other offering in that caliber. With that said I looked at my Remington catalog and compared the BC of the 140 accutip versus other bullets within the .270 caliber and there was a nice margin. Can someone please explain?

Six in one hand and half a dozen in the other.

If you look at Hornady bullets the .277" 130 grain soft point (non premium bullet)has a higher BC than the same 7mm bullet in 139 grain. Butwith the SST bullet the 7mm has the edge.

With the 6.5mm diameter a 140 grain is a very long and sleek bullet and thus the very high BC.

Generally speaking, the smaller the bullets diameter the higher the BC will be for a given bullet weight because the bullet must be made longer as the bullet diameter decreases and this increases the BC of a bullet provided the bullets are made with the same design.... IE: boat tail bases, same ogive, same type of tip, etc...

The classic loading for the .270 for deer hunting is the 130-grain bullet. When you need more penetration for larger game, the 150 has always been the one chosen by most people. Those 140-grain bullets for the .270 are the "johhny-come-lately's" for the .270. I suspect that's why more are not offered-because the demand just isn't there.

BTW, if you make the same shape of a 140-grain bullet and a 150-grain bullet for the .270, the 150 will always have a higher ballistic coefficient than the 140.

The 140 gr Accutip is a Hornady SST with a gold tip instead of red. My one bullet for everything with my 270WSM is the 140 gr Accubond.

Mostly because there's not that much difference in performance until the bullet gets past 300 yards. I believe most serious hunters that shoot past 300 and have the ability and gear to consistantly kill past that range will spring the extra few bucks for the 140g. I'm fortunate in the fact I handload 140g Accubonds for my wife's 270 so if you can't find them to buy it might be a sign that realoading might be a good option. And if you do handload the cost should be on par with a box of non-premium loads.
