how to get gun permit

I'm 15 and I live in maryland. I would like to get a Remington 870. Neither of my parents have ever had a gun license, but my uncle and grandfather do. Where would I go to get one and how much would it cost? I realize somebody over 18 would have to buy it, and as I said neither of my parents have a license, so would I have to get my uncle/grandfather to do it, or could one of my parents get it and then have it put in my name? Thanks

==edit==

Did a little googling, and found some things that said no permit was required to buy a shotgun. So does that mean I could just go to Bass Pro, get one of my parents to buy it, and thats it? Does it have to be registered or anything? And would I be able to shoot it at any range or are there only some that you can use shotguns at?

RE: how to get gun permit

In MD, you do not have to buy any licence for any handgun or rifle or shotgun. They just have to fill out the paperwork for a longgun, they call the NICs system, and that day, they can walk out the door with your 870. For a handgun, they have to watch a safety video, fill out the paperwork, go thru the NIC's system and then MD state police will recieve a fired case from your gun, and will contact the pistol seller, to release the gun, which is usually 5-7 business days.

RE: how to get gun permit

Good news: Maryland does not regulate the sale or possession of long guns. Therefore, you do not need a "gun permit", (whatever that is) to buy a shotgun, but due to your age, you may need to have a parent or guardian buy it. They may have to supervise your use of the gun too, until you are older. If you intend to hunt, you will have to take and pass a Hunter Safety Course before you can buy a hunting license. Look here to see Maryland gun laws.

IF you intend to be a gun owner, hunter, or shooter, you need to join the National Rifle Association!!

Good luck, have fun, & be safe!!
