Elk/Mule Deer bullets.
First off, i know there are no bullets forboth that are perfect for the two diffrent game size. I shoot a 7mm rem mag. My choice is narrowed down to the nosler accubond 160gr or the barnes triple shock 160 gr.Both federal loads. I noticed on federals website there ballisticaly close. And that stumped me a bit.[&:]
Anyones opinion on these bullets or experinces are welcomed.

Honestly a Elk isnt too hard to kill. I got 2 of them with a 25-06 when i had it. Now i use a 300 WSM for everything loaded with 180gr rounds but i go to Canada for Moose or Caribou every year. The 160gr rounds will be fine for both animals. I like the Barnes TSX better but they are both great rounds. Shoot whichever shoots best in your rifle. There is no point in shooting a TSX becasue it penetrates deeper if your shooting 6" groups at 100 yards when the Accubonds are getting 2" groups and are plenty for Elk or Deer.

In my 7mm Rem. Mag., I use a 175-grain Nosler Partition bullet with 70 grains of IMR7828, and get a velocity of 3050 FPS @ 10' from the muzzle. I have not used this load on mule deer, but it flat dumps elk right now. A lightning bolt would not drop one any faster.

I'd probably find the best wt/gr that shoots best, though if that doesnt happen, an elk bullet may punch right through a deer, and that'll work out fine.
but hey if a premium bullet on elk, and then more of a softy on deer....
or just 7mm-elk, and get a new rifle for deer....haha, less of course combo hunting.

A good compromise would be a 140 TSX out of a 7 REm mag . I have used 160 partitions for both out of a 7 mag and a 280 with no problems but finished bullet weight was probably a lot less then 140 grains when done. The TSX isn't going to shed much at all on the way thru

Of the 2 you listed I would use the one that groups the best out of your rifle. However, if you are looking for more velocity and a flatter trajectory a 140 gr. TSX will do the trick. It will maintain more weight than the 160 gr. AccoBond after hitting a game animal. I have taken alot of deer, feral hogs, & elk with the 140 tsx out of a 280 remington.
