150gr. core-lokt' s
has anyone used these bullets on deer with good results under 50yds or so?

RE: 150gr. core-lokt' s
20 yards to 414 yards and they' ve performed excellently. For inexpensive ammo their accuracy in three of my rifles has been sub .5" . Off the shelf this is very good.
Have had difficulties with them though in a 270 - but that might be a rifle thing - and only at extended ranges and with a big boar I shot once who soaked it up and required additional " work" . |

I don' t know of the caliber you' re asking about quilly, but I' ve used 150 gr. corelocts in a 30-30 with excellent results.

RE: 150gr. core-lokt' s
I have 180s for 30-06 that shoot ok. Would 150s be a better choice for deer?

PAhunter86,
I see no reason to shoot the 180s for deer. The 150s should perform fine. Boils down to what ever your gun likes to eat better from an accuracy standpoint to me - but unless I was hunting moose or elk or something the 150s would be the one I' d use. Maybe if I was hunting close to private property or something or was hunting deer over 3bills on the hoof, then maybe I might consider a change. I doubt it though, cause they are devistating when put in the boiler room and I consider deer and all they contain light skinned" game. |

Last season I shot a nice 5 point using Remington 150 grain Core-lokt' s in my 7mm Rem Mag.He never knew what hit him.It was about a 60 yards shot and the bullet held together well.At the angle he was standing it traveled from behind the shoulder to the hams.It never exited, after recovery of the bullet it was well mushroomed and performed as designed.I would recommend using them.

I shot a mule deer once with my 30-06 Sprg. at about 60 yds. with a 150 gr. core-lokt it dropped like a sack of potatoes. Good luck.

RE: 150gr. core-lokt' s
personally i love core locks, they shoot great outta all my rifles, i reload 150grainers, but when i hunt up north in the big thick stuff (i also get a bear tag but i;ve never even seen a bear, ohh lots of others have and all of my buddies have tagged one or two but somehow the elusive urus americanis escapes me) i like using 180 roundnose corelocks. ususally get complete penetration on everything but straight on chest shots. one year i tried to be newfangled and use some trophy bonded bear claws. and i didn;t even see a deer so i wouldn;t know how they worked, i dunno maybe it;s karma..
ohh one more thing what happened to off season board? i go away for a week and it;s gone. |
