What is the appropriate bullet grain for hunting Whitetail with a 7MM Rifle?

Which 7mm???? 7-08? 7 Rem. Mag.?? There's lots of different ones, and yes, it makes a difference...

150's are a good all around bullet for faster 7mm's, and 140's are good for the slower ones for deer sized game...

I would stick with a 140 as a min weight for deer. DM said it right though. I would use a 160gr for a 7mm Mag or larger(Yes there is a bigger 7mm then a 7mm Rem Mag) and a 140 for anything smaller.

I have used 120, 140, 160, and 175-grain bullets on whitetail in the 7mm Rem. Mag., and the 7X57mm. I found:
120's did too much damage.
140's were quited adequate.
160's gave too much penetration.
175's were great for elk, but totally too much of a good thing for whitetails AND mulies!

I settled on the 150-grain Nosler Partition as a good compromise weight/type for deer and elk, if both can be shot on the same hunt.

I am now using the Remington Corelokt 150-grain bullet for just deer, as the partition feature of the Nosler is not needed on whitetails. The Corelokts are quite accurate in all my 7mm's (a 7mm Rem. Mag., and three 7X57mm's, plus theyare not priced sky-high.....

140 grain bullet is all you need . If you stick to one load for other game then use a 150 or 160 grain bullet

140gr nosler ballistic tip is going to be very hard to beat.
