Remington 700 series guns are good reputable and dependable guns and a good value. They geta knock from some because of their stock fit and what it's comprised of, but they aresound guns.If it's the camo stock...which I think it is....it's about a $650 value. The fact that it's 7-08 makes it the perfect gun for whitetail. The 7mm (.284) is a great round and holds a fantastic Ballistic Coefficient and it's got very little kick...making it fun to shoot all day, if you wanted to. I got my first 7mm-08 last year and it is about as fun to shoot as it gets. If you load, or know someone that does, you could have a giant selection of load possibilites for anything from yotes and small varmint up to elk and mulie. I myself would hold back on it for bear or moose, but I think if you're an accurate shot, you'd be fine there too.

Congrats....and if you find yourself looking to dish the gun for some reason, PM me first.

The only thing I would do to that gun for hunting is a $35 dollar trigger job. I have to 700 SPS's and I love them both. I have a 300 ultra mag and a .270. I had trigger jobs on them both and they are great shooters. I am comfortable out to 300 yards with either of them.

Congrats!!!

Thanks for the info, I have hunted most of my life, and if you can tell from my user name, never really hunted much with out my Bow, so this will be my first rifle. and the county I live in does not have a rifle season as of yet,(for Deer or Bear) but all the sourounding counties do. but we do have alot of coyotes around here. Thanks again, if I do decide I don't really like it, I will let you know.

I have one. It is a great gun. The 24 inch barrel brings out the best in a great cartridge. Watch your shots and it will take all NA big game in the lower 48. A friend has taken elk and moose with his as well as deer. It will do about anything that the 270 or 308 will do.

I have a sps in 243 that I bought for my daughter to deer hunt with,it is a good little gun that shoots MOA or better with every bullet that I have tried in it,I do recommend a trigger job but other than that they are good guns and the 7mm-08 is a great caliber for medium sized game and will kill every coyote that you can hit as far out as you can hit them.

Bow Freak..It says under your name that you are from Steuben County NY.. This is the third year that rifles have been legal here...

Wherever you are from, you have won yourself a fine deer rifle..I have a M700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08 and it is as close to a perfect deer rifle as I have ever owned..
