.44 ammo

I shoot a Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum, and a m77 .44 for deer and just stumbled across hornady's 300 gr. .44 shells. I was wondering if anybody has ever shot them and if it's worth the extra price or if it's overkill for deer?

Imo the 300 gr loads simply aren't needed for deer-especially within "normal" .44 range. I've had good luck with the standard jacketed 240 gr bullets loaded to full pressure. Would like to get ahold of the leverevolution bullets to load and see how they work.

I would like to shoot some of them too. The only thing is that I am a little leary of the brush busting capabilities of the leverevolutions. Maybe they would still be great brush guns, but in the distances that I shoot balistics aren't as big as a deal as knockdown.

I picked up a box of Leverevolution 44 mags the other day and my Model 94 rifle likes em! I didn't nail it down to a bench or anything, but leaning over my truck bedshooting 50 yards with open sights I was getting 3" groups.

I'd like to get a bench and see what it will do. I haven't tried them yet in my Super Blackhawk.

The regular 240JSP have worked for me andyou can buy them at affordable prices in boxes of 50. Had good luck with the winchesters 240 grain with the little deerhead on the box. Best thing is that you can use the same ammo for practice and hunting. Problem with all of the special loads is that they are so expensive that you will only use them for hunting and sighting in.I find practice with the same ammo you will hunt with is veryimportantwith ahandgun especially when you consider that all of these special loads they make have much different bullet weights that the normal ammo you use at the range which is for me 240 g stuff.Take care.
