Marlin XL7 Bolt
Swung by the local dealer today and there on his stool sat a Marlin Bolt rifle. I asked him if it was new or used and lo and behold it was used. It was chambered in 270 win. I have to say it has a whole bunch of different designs incorporated into 1. It has a weatherby vanguard style fluted bolt with a post 64 winchester bolt head with identical extractor. It has a remington style 2 position safety. It has a model 70 bolt release and Savage internal magazine and barrel nut.Weatherby enclosed bolt shroud.Guy that bought it owned it for 2 weeks and traded it in on something else. I can buy it for 275 out the door taxes included. This is a tough gun to beat for the price.

RE: Marlin XL7 Bolt
I think that would be a good deal for you. Good reviews on the XL7 for the price it can't be beat. I actually ordered a XL7C in the 30-06six weeks ago. Still backordered so I cancelled because I was tired of waiting and bought the S &W iBolt. Let me know how it shoots if you buy it. I am taking the S&W to the range this weekend and give it a run through.

RE: Marlin XL7 Bolt
I am going to pass on it. First of all it has no magazine system and I don't have a big selection of aftermarket replacement stocks. Still it would make a great all around rifle for someone.

RE: Marlin XL7 Bolt
It got great reviews in Shooting times mag a while back, seems that it was shooting close to moa with factory ammo.

What I noticed about it compared to a Stevens bolt that was there was the muzzle and the way they crowned it . I thought the Marlin had a great crown on it.

RE: Marlin XL7 Bolt
NRA's American Hunter magazine (October 2008) gave the Marlin XL7 anice write-up. For the price, it seems too good to pass up. Does it shoot okay foryou?

Re: the Stevens reference, was thatthe Stevens 200? I have also read good thingsaboutthat model. Wonderingwhata side-by-sideMarlin XL7 v. Stevens 200 would reveal.

RE: Marlin XL7 Bolt
I picked one up in 270 Win today just to play with. Like already stated, this thing is a meld of different makes. I measured the trigger and it's averaging a 3 lb 4oz pull weight. Has the typical cheesy tupperware stock but appears to have a pressure point in the forearm and it's actually quite rigid. The rifle uses Win M70 bases and did come with a set of weaver 2 piece bases but I opted to use Warne's instead. I have some Federal Premium150 Nosler Partitions and Winchester Super X 130 gr PP's factory cartridges on hand to try and will load up a few handloads in a bit to wring it out tomorrow. If the sub $300 rifle shoots ok at 100yds I'll takeit out to 4 or 500 yards and see what it will do.
