You might find a Ruger 10-22 for close to $200. I saw one at Wal-Mart for a little over that. If not, I would try to scrape up another 25 bucks or so and get a 10-22.

It is a great gun, and for the price, you can't beat it.

I bought a Marlin for under $200 at Wal-Mart to teach my kidsthe basics of shooting. It has a stainless steel barrel and a decent little scope. I love that little gun.

A basic Ruger 10/22 should run $180 at Wal-Mart. I love mine.
Marlin model 60 is great though my dad has one that's 50 years old and still shoots.
Savage makes good 22's as well.
Get any of these and you won't me disappointed.

For $200 you have a lot of choices. Get you a Marlin or the Ruger 10/22 and you won't be disappointed.

You know, that question comes up a lot, the thing I like about the 10/22 is that later when you get a little extra money you can upgrade the 10/22 with some quality stuff and really make the 10/22 a true shooter. I have one that I worked on for a couple years and now it will shoot a killer group at 100yds and is a blast to shoot, this is a super accurate gun at say 50yds for squirrel hunting with just about any ammo....

Remington 597. My girlfriend bought one the other day. It out shootsmy factory configuration 10/22. The have all the feeding issues figured out. Also, some people said the trigger was heavy, Her's breaks at 5 lbs. Not too bad for hunting. She picked it up with an extra mag for $190.

Mossberg makes the Plinkster in several versions and last time I saw one (a couple of weeks ago), a bolt action it was about $100 new.
