Redfield Widefield Scopes

In the late 1970's, 3 of us hunt camp members bought Redfield Widefield scopes 1.5x5 .We still have these sopes mounted on our 742 Remington .30-06 semi auto's. None of us have ever had a problem picking up running deer/moose in them, even in thick cover. I know that Redfield was bought up by someone. The quality of these scopes is quite good.
I think that we paid $100 each. Who bought Redfield and dropped the name ?

Leupold was the last buyer and have not heard a thing about Redfield since then

I think Meade owned them before that.

Think I read or heard that Leupold is now handling Redfield scope repairs....

Friend of mine purchased a used pre64 with a Redfield on it and he sent it off to a place in Miami that bought all the redfield parts and some machinery. Leupold just purchased the brand name from Meade.

I have several of the old Redfield Widefields.

I don't know who took them over or who has them now.

For Redfield repairs go towww.abousainc.com
I had one cleaned and serviced by them some years back and they did a great job. They were pricey on the shipping though.I see from their site they are moving. They used to be right in downtown Miami.

Those old Redfields sure are nice scopes. I have an old Tracker 2x7 that came with the 760 I bought. $225 for the gun and the scope. I love a good bargain! I wonder if there is anyway to tell the date of manfacture on those scopes. My guess would be from the 60's but theres no way to know for sure.

I have one of these in 3x9 from the late '70's. I bought it used from a guy who only used it 2-3 times. I put it on a M77 Ruger-30-06 in 1982. I have used it less than 10 times since then. The glass is quality and the reticles are very fine line. Nice scope in my opinion.

I could never understand why Redfields never got any more "respect" than they did. I have several of them, and always considered them good quality optics. Very close to Leupolds, in my opinion....

My dad has an old redfield, nice scope for the time, but not so great compared to modern optics. Some of the newer cheap scopes look better than some of the old expensive ones from what I have seen.

The 3 guyz in our camp with Redfield Widefields....1 is 73, 1 70 and I am 57 and no one will be getting their hands on ourscopes 'till we are dead....I figure about 50 kills since 1980 moose, deer, bear....no one ever complained that they couldn't pick up the animal whether running or standing....1.5X5
Great scope....

I picked up a redfield 5 star 2-7 x 40. got it from a guy who tried to sell me a oldertasco or bushnell for 20-30 bucks, I said I wanted better then he pulled out the redfield still in the original box. Price on the box was 395.95 He said he had to get $100.00 for it so I paid quickly and left. I have it on my BLR 7mm rem. mag. And it does great . I have no idea how old it is but it looks new. Your lucky day ! Now that I am older, that 2-7 x40 of yours "looks" very good to me. My brother has a 2 -7 Leuopold that he loves. My wife is hounding me to go to the Magdalen Islands for the last 2 years. I will tell her that I will go if you trade scopes with me....my 1.5 - 5 for your 2 -7, I could be convinced to pay you a few extra $ in the trade. If no deal that's OK too, as my scope has been very good to me.

Yea Rodney, I was teasing you about the scope....I have had it since 1979 & figure it on top of my .30-06 Remington semi-auto riflehas harvested about 2 tons of deer, moose & even black bear...I will not change it....I will have ituntil it dies a natural death...
My wife's familyis from PEI, she loves the water & swims like a fish...I love the water too but on top......my son & I are avid fishermen & swim but only when necessary (ie. our boat tips over)... I will give you a shout about the islands...my wife has all the brochures etc. from the tourist shop & I have pulled up un the internet....looks beautiful...my brother & I are going 1000 miles north for a week Oct. 25....we have a bull moose permit....so we will looking for Bullwinkle...

I live in Whitby....40 miles east of Toronto....we go west of Thunder Bay
Last year 1 of our boys with us, the 70 year old, missed a yearling bull facing him at 100 yards BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM....I don't believe it was the Redfield...he was a sharpshooter and is still quit effective BUT we have noticed some slippage in the last few years Uunfortunatley no moosemeat in the freezer last year)
....I am 57, my brother 58 & Old Ed 73
Just my bro & me this year.....Good Luck to you, make that 1st shot count
My 06 is on at 50 yards and on at 250.....I shot a 10 point buck 2 years ago 254 yards......good medicine
That 06 with the Redfield can make a difference near & far....
Al
