Bullet style

I use a .270 and a 30-06 to hunt deer. I have one area thatthe max shot is between 30 to 50 yards. What type of bullet would you recomend.

Thanks
Chris

A Nosler Parition, Hornady Interloc, or a Bonded Core Loc,in a 150gr for 270 or 180gr for 30-06.

Out of a 270 or ' 06...the bullet just needs to be something that will expand somewhat on impact. I like the Core-Loct for all deer hunting. I use them out of my 270, and they are fine. Deer aren' t the thickest skinned animals out there, so the shot placement is much more important than the bullet.

Good luck!

mine are like yours also...and i like the fastest expanding bullet i can find....people say hollow points and nosler balistic tips are the most destructive and expand the fastest and things like that..my dad uses noslers and my friend let me reload this year and i used 165gr sierra game king HPBTs this year...both performed equally..same holes same internal damage....both worked perfect for me and my dad this year...one of my shots was 45 or so and the other was about 20-30 i cant really remember...it was my first buck and i got caught in the moment and didnt think about anything but get him!...my dads was about 35-40 and the other was about 25-30...he uses an 06 also...165gr federal nbts......thats what we use and thats what works for us....i used 165 gr corelokts one year....i hit 2 deer...poor hits because of a broke cheap scope...but one there was a tiny blood trail for 20yds or so and the other i found one drop of blood...sure alot of things could have hapend like something plugging holes or something like that..but broadside at 30yds with a 3006 all my exit holes have been quarter sized atleast...blood poors out of these things....not with the corelokts...i dont know if they werent opening or exploding on impact or what but they were terrible if you ask me....sure they wernt great hits but they were in the vacinity of a vital hit...just not right on the mark.....good luck

Since your shots are so close I would use Federal 180gr., or 220 gr. Sierra Pro-hunter Round Nose (RN) for your 30-06 Sprg.

For your 270 Win. I would use Federal 150gr. High-Shok RN.

Good luck.

Any whitetail deer in this world can be easily taken with 130 grain core lockts out of the .270 and 150 grain core lockts out of your 30-06. There is absolutly no need to spend the extra money on the " premium" bullets unless the cheap stuff just won' t shoot well for you. Of course at 30 - 50 yards you could shoot them with a sling shot and still get good shot placement. Remember that thousands of people have been shooting deer and larger animals with the " regular" ammo for many many more years than the " premium" bullets have even been on the market.

bigbulls...

i do agree you don' t need a premuim bullet. but up in maine and i bet where BIG DUCK EXTREME is the deer get real big. for those velocities i think it is better to use a premuim bullet. after all you only really get one shot at a deer that is a monster . ( i am still waiting ).
i think if not using a premium bullet to use a 180gr. core-lokt out of the 30-06sprg or like woodseye stated the 150gr. core-lok' t.

you also might want to try the federal classic HI-shok SP' s for your 270win the 140gr. never worked in my gun, but the 130gr and the 150worked well.
