i think mossberg is better, ive always shot them and believe theyre the best in the pump dept, maybe im wrong?...thoughts and opinions please

Having had both shotguns mentioned, I think the Browning BPS is the best pump shotgun. It is for me atleast!

I have both a Mossberg 500 and a Remington 870. Neither one out shines the other in my opinion. They both work well for me.

This is very similar to the Remington Vs. Savage arguments that we get into all the time. So I am going to be careful with my answer.

If you win a shotgun at a gun bash, and you are allowed to choose either a Mossberg or a Remington pump shotgun...... I doubt very seriously if anyone would pick the Mossberg. And that would be the cheaper Express. IF you compare the Mossberg to the WingMaster....... Well there is no comparison. Tom.

IMO The mossberg is a little loud and clackety compared to the Remington. With a traditional stock I like the thumb safety on the Mossberg. I bought a collapsible AR-15 style stock and put it on my mossberg. I hate it. In this configuration, I would rather the trigger guard safety of the Remington. Other than the location of safety and slide release, I really can't think of any way one would outshine the other. Both are awesome scatterguns. It really depends on what you plan to use it for.

I own one of each. I like the Remington safety more. Plus the Mossberg seems more sloppy. But the game I've take with each cant tell the difference.

I've shot both and the Remington 870 Express just feels more solid to me.

I have a black Remington 870 Express Super Magnum. I paid something like $280 for it. I wanted it to get started in duck hunting. I didn't want a pretty wood stocked shotgun because I knew I would freak out if I got it wet or muddy or the other hazards of duck hunting. The gun has done exactly what I have wanted it to do, very reliably. It has never malfunctioned. What more can you ask of a shotgun? I suppose the Mossburg may perform just as well in this regard, but I'm satisfied with the 870. I've used it three seasons now.

Mossberg, I wont buy another remington in anything. POS 870 in matt finish rusted within the first month, damn thing jamed too. It made a good anchor. Mossberg is the better gun. I just bought my son one today, a youth 20 pump. Smoother than the Rem. Made in the USA, man mossberg has some nice gun out now. Lots of deer rifles too. Nice ones too.

870. the action is slicker as less parts.i have 3 of them. i don't like the bps. i have one in .410.

Neither is the wrong choice. If you know someone that has either one, or both, try them out. Buy the one you can hit with the best. Shotguns are like that. Fit is really important.

i have had two 500s one i bought used one new.
They where both top grade guns infact i looked at the rem and most other pumps and figured why not just buy the 500. In my book the best shotgun ever made

I have an 870 Wingmaster made in 68 and a 500 made in 88. Absolutely no comparison... The word Yugo is coming to mind again :D OEH throwing the Mod 12 in there is throwing crap in the game...those were some sweet guns!

I have to go with the Rem 870. Not that its any better than the Mossberg. But like you, its what I cut my teeth on and it just feels right. I have 2 20s and 1 12 in the 870.
My friend has a Win Model 12 and a Mossberg 500 and they just do not feel right to me. Again, not saying they are bad. Lord knows the model 12 has a great reputation in the field and on the trap line and the Mossberg is a working man's gun. But again, so is the 870.

Both will do the trick :DI'm an 870 guy, but Winchesters are my favorite pumps (1200, 1300).

I can't say I have much trigger time with the 870, but my 500 has been putting birds in the freezer for the last 20 years without a hiccup.
A little loose fitting in the forearm maybe, but think of them more as the AK-47 of shotguns ! ;)
Also have a short barrelled Winchester 2200 as my primary grouse gun, but the 500 is still more reliable IMO.
