Ok lets say you pick out a semi auto handgun the model you want comes in both 9mm and .45

Switch do you buy.
Let say they cost the same.

If you hate both let me know what you like and way

I picked the 45 but i would much rather have a 40. They come in more compact model handguns and have a more power then the 9mm. Plus it has less recoil then the 45.

i will look into the 40 thought about it. not sure i want a compact but i will look them over. This will be more for home defense or in the truck gun

I would respectfully disagree about the .40 over the .45. Although the .40 is a smaller caliber i think that the .40 has snappier, more uncomfortable recoil. A .45 is a big old slug, but it is slow moving and usually comes in better, full size pistols. I think that makes it much more comfortable to shoot and shoot well. Recoil is 90% mental though so maybe I'm the only one that feels that way. Is the pistol going to be for concealed carry? If so it might be worth it to give up a little "shootability" to gain a little "carry-ability" in a compact pistol, and you will probably find a better selection of compact pistols in the 9mm-.40 range. Although many guys get real macho attitudes about the 9mm being a "wimpy" round, in most defensive shooting situations i doubt you would be able to appreciate the difference between the two, after the number one rule to winning a gunfight is "have a gun".

It is unlikly i will carry it concealed. I want it for home defense and in my truck when i drive down the back roads. plus i am a big guy. And it is not hard for me to carry a large frame gun concealed. plus i do not mind some knowing it is there

Depends on what gun you are talking about. SomeI would rather have chambered for the 9 and someI would rather have chambered in 45.

I like the .45, as mentioned before it seems to have a little less of a sharpness in the recoil. Doesn't hurt that it packs a wallop when it hits something too.

The case for the 9mm:
1. The 9mm is more accurate, so you more likely to hit your target;
2. The 9mm has less recoil, so your follow-up shots are faster; and
3. The 9mm will carry more rounds, so you can fire more rounds.

Those are three large tactical advantages over the .45. If you use hollow-point bullets there is plenty of stopping power and energy transfer to the target, so it is not wimpy.
