I had a Weatherby " weathergaurd" once ( it had the crinkle finish on the stock) I didn' t like that because it was noisy (when a branch scratched acrossed it ; it was like fiinger nails on a chalkboard). The guns at Walmart are good guns ( not factory seconds) so if you like that model it' ll be fine . BTW as far as I know the " weathergaurd" is out of production.

The rifle you are talking about is a howa made rifle with the weatherby name on it.The howa rifles are some of the best made rifles in their price range.

If you like the gun and it fits your budget, buy it. Howa rifles are a very good value and you will certainly be pleased with your purchase.

For the cost you won' t be sorry! Howa makes strong actions,I have one in the .300 Weatherby and it' s a tack-driver after I put on a new recoil pad and lightened up the trigger...;)

If it' s anything like the Howa 1500 Varminter I just bought in .223 the bolt throw will be smoother than just about any other gun in your safe. I know mine is, I have several mausers that have some smooth working bolts and the Howa blows them away. Being the 30-06 you would need to use Remington 700 la bases just an FYI. I went through having to cross reference the Weaver and Leupold catalogs to find that out. Almost forgot, I believe the Vanguard series are all limited to standard pressures, so if you decide to work up a hot load keep that in mind.
