Got a new gun (scope question)
 

Got my handi rifle in 30-06 today. Topped it off with a 3.5x10x45 bushnell scope.
I only had the chance for two shots today and I got it pretty close to sighted in.
It has a fine trigger, not the most consistant one I' ve ever had, it hovers between 2.5-4#, still that isn' t bad. I got weaver high mounts for the scope.

So how do you guys mount the scopes on your guns? I used lock tight on mine and it seemed to do ok so far.

Locktite is the best that I have found. I have never had any trouble with it, but am always looking for something better.

I use loc-tite on the base screws and tap the screwdriver on top while tightening them,signature rings won' t ever slip and don' t mar or crimp the scope tube either,and best of all no lapping needed.

When I mount scopes I use LocTite on the bases only and I do between 75-100 a year for a local gun shop...;)

i have used loc-tite on one gun. ( first rifle and scope ) was done by a place i bought my scope from. it was apain in the butt to get off. they must of used red.
every other gun i have owned since i just use leupold bases and rings and have had no problems with the scope getting jarred.dropped my old rem 7600 two years ago and shot it the next day was still on.
i only use loc-tite ( blue ) on my peep sights.

Contrary to what a lot of people will tell you, there' s nothing wrong with using Loctite, as long as you stick with the blue stuff made for gun work. I like to mount my scopes as low as possible in relation to the scope height, so that when you cheek the rifle with your eyes closed, then open them, you are looking through the center of the ocular lens. There' s nothing basically wrong with Bushnell scopes, but, of course, the more expensive ones are better. I still have two Scopechief IV' s, a 1.5X-4.5X, and a 3X-9x, both with the Command Post reticle. It allows you to change back and forth betwwen a crosshair or post & crosshair reticle. Great for both open country or heavy woods!!

I just got a new Handi rifle in 30-06 as well. I didn,t have any high rings so I used a set of Weaver see thru base. I put a Bushnel range finde scope on mine. I have had the scope for 20 years but it still works great. No need to spend three times what you have to for good optics.

Got my scope locked down good. And sighted it in. One thing I noticed is because of the short barrel it has a tendency to string shots high and low if you don' t really watch your breath controll. Mine is heavier than I thought it would be. I' ll bet it' s every bit of 8 pounds. Makes for a good steady shot, especialy moving targets. I followed a doe running across a powerline yesterday and the crosshairs never moved off her vitals. If it were deer season... I' d be really happy now.

James, did you do anything to improve the accuracy of your rifle? Mine makes about 2" groups at 100 yards, 4" at 200yds, and 6" at 250yds. I haven' t tried it past that yet. Maybe when the barrel gets a little more age on it the groups will tighten up?

Quilly, I asure you that the gun shop that mounted your original scope didn' t use RED 262 Loc-tite.Trust me if they did you would never have gotten it off.Small screws using the Blue are a bear to get out at times.I use both the Red and Blue at work.Once the Red sets up it' s almost impossible to remove without putting heat to the parts assembled.At one time the Loc-tite 242 blue said if used on under 1/4" screws it become perminent. It might still say it and I haven' t noticed.

i had to cut the mounts off with a dremel tool to get them off. nothing else would get it off !!
