Just An Interesting Gun...
This is the video for an interesting gun...
What I see ... It's a Gause or rail gun (or call it what you will). It's been developed by the US military to launch ferrous metal chunks into space to shoot down satleites and ICBM's. I've never seen an attempt at a personal one however, how many rounds can it fire between recharges?[/align] |
RE: Just An Interesting Gun...
Was there a oil filter attached to it or was it just a rest of some sort? If that thing could only knock a can off a stool at 1 yard, I don't see much use for it on sat missions. However, there have been some other electro-mag guns that have been in the works. I still don't see a use for them in the future....too much energy consumption.

RE: Just An Interesting Gun...
It was sitting on a coffee cup while they filmed it. I'm not too impressed if you can shoot inside a house with no back stop. My bow is more powerful than that. They never said what the weight of the projectile was or how fast it could go, or what sort of accuracy you could get out of it. Cool experiment I guess, but practically an air gun would be better. A paint ball gun would do just as much damage (more maybe) and can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger or full auto on some models. Mine would let you choose between single shot, 3 shot burst, 6 shot burst and full auto.
I don't see a rail gun putting a projectile into space unless it is a huge one. And then I don't know how precise it would be. I think a guided rocket would still be your best bet. Paul |
