the better .22?

I know that in the world of .22s there isnt much that separates the great from the average and dependable, but if you were to choose one last .22 to take to the grave, or maybe just on an afternoon squirrel adventure...which would it be?

rem? marlin? winchester?

i hear LOTS of good things with the Ruger 10/22, however i've never shot one less owned one. i have owned several Marlins and never had a bad one. my last one is a Marlin bolt action and it's a tack driver.

Without a doubt, Anschutz! I bought one new in 1973, and i plan to take it to my grave! It just keeps on, keeping on!

RE: the better .22?

Gotta agree with Drilling...But I couldn't afford one, so I did the next best thing...A few years ago Remington made a special run of 541s in curly maple, being a flintlock shooter, and since curly maple was the preferred wood back in the 1700s, I had to have one...

I put a Luepold 3x9x33 Compact scope on it, had it parallex adjusted to 75 yards, and it will group inside of a dime at 50 yards...

I grew up a squirrel hunter, if I had a had this, probably would have had many, many tickets from the Warden...:D

Well I would go with the Win 75, but I would have to beat it out of my fathers hands so I'll just stick with my Marlin.

it'd be a toss up between my volquartzen 10/22 and my anchutz

RE: the better .22?

ive always shot the marlin 39A with a peep sight, and now with a 4power scope and at 30 yards i put quarter sizedgroups in the 10x ring with a box of rem thunderbolts(the cheap-os)

but ive also got a remiongton model 550-I with the good mossberg-style iron sights that ive fallen in love with-i guess im just uneducated in the .22 department

I don't know a whole lot about .22's, but I can tell you that I like my Savage Mark II better than my Ruger 10/22.

RE: the better .22?

I will be a little bit different and say my Rem 550. This gun is a well built tank that shoots really good and has had so many rounds shot through it I would be afraid to guess at a number and it still shoots extremely well. I know there isn't a 22 out there that can compare to the 10/22 when it comes to trick it out but my Rem 550 will shoot with a 10/22 and then some.

Keystone Crickett. 5 shot groups into one hole and my 6 year old can hunt squirrels with it. That's more important than me having a $1000 22.;)

RE: the better .22?

ruger 10/22 is the best. not in stock form but it has the most potential. Atleast for the non-custom gun builders such as myself who are limited to production upgrades. I have seen some 2 thousand dollar + ruger 10/22's. Personaly, I would just buy a dedicated .22 upper for an AR15 but that me...

I have a Ruger 10/22 that has at least 50,000 rounds through it. It was one of the earliest made in the sporter grade (no barrel band, nice wood with checkering). Dependable, accurate, nice to look at, fun to shoot. I will take it to the grave!

RE: the better .22?

I have a 10/22 and more recently a CZ 452 American topped with a Weaver V-24. The cz is very accurate even at 100 yrds. Its not uncommon for some of the CZ fanatics over at rimfirecentral to get 1" groups with their cz's. Of course they modify the trigger, custom bed the stock etc.

RE: the better .22?

I have a cz 452 american with a 9 1/2 oz trigger and as Dominick stated it will shoot,I have out shot my old remington 541T,and I didnt think that was possible with a rifle that sells new for about $300 in .22 caliber unless it was a single shot or something, this rifle costed way less than the remingtons do used, the kimber is a bit high priced for my taste, and the anschultz are to high also, the 10/22 ruger shoots good if you like an autoloader and easy to modify with target barrel, triggers and stocks made by a big number of manufacturers.I had a marlin .17hmr and it was deadly accurate but the bullets were to high just too stand around and shoot a couple of hundred rounds at stuff you didnt want kill and eat.

Another for the CZ 452. I have the training rifle and for only $220 new, it can't be beat.I can shoot almost as well with the open sights as I could with my old marlin with a scope on it. Awesome gun

No doubt, Anschutz makes one of the world's best .22 rimfire, you might even see a few in Olympic competition in the next couple of weeks.;)

I bought my Anschutz in the mid 70's... I wanted a 22 that would be extremely accurate, and last me the rest of my life tothen be passed on to a family member...

I bought it new for 98 or 99 bucks, and what do you think it's worth today? It's paid for itself many times over!

For many years i drug it all over Alaska shooting camp meat, or putting meat in my freezer with it. And even though it's had many thousands of rounds put through it, it still shoots like new! Then a few years ago the sling broke and the gun took a fall, breaking the stock. I happen to find a brand new "origional" stock on linethattheguy wanted 65 bucks for! With the new stock installed, and as i no longer hunt much with it, i also put a Weaver T-10 on it. So now it's just a gunto havefun with...
