Even in a 5 3/4 lb Kimber 7-08 Recoil is non-existent
Rrrright.
I shot a 7-08 for the first time last year, a Browning gold medallion, 3 shots and I had a bruise.
It surprised me how much it kicked.
Non existent is my 14lb, Bull Barrell.243.
Believe it or not zrex, I agree with you. To say that the recoil is nonexistant is untrue... There is recoil, but it is tolerable in a small gun .... more bearable in a heavier full sized gun, but both are ok with the slip on recoil pad.....

Yes, it is more than a .243 ... a whole lot more?? No .... is it noticeablly more ?? yes .... Is it too much ?? No... My wife can shoot mine fine.... But it does have a sims recoil pad on it.... Like I said....

Pleasedon't take offense, apparently you're not doing something right if a 7mm08 bruises you.I could shoot our's all day and not be bruised or have any discomfort. Maybe it's the way the Browning fits you.I would fire a different rifle with this cartridge and see. I'm not doubting you just something doesn't sound Kosher.

probably didnt shoulder it right, were just playing around and I wanted to shoot it. It hit me high, on the ball of the shoulder.
3 shots in a tee shirt, no recoil-pad, yes it did bruise me.
I sighted in a 7 mag the week before, of course I was paying attention to how I shoulderd that one.
No bruise.
All I was saying is the 7-08 is far from having non existent recoil.

A little more than a .243 ... but very tolerable. I have that in a remington model 7 .... a short light weight gun.... and with all the rifles thatI own, I probably carry that more than any other. It is a little less than a .308 in recoil, and it is deadly on deer. I have been using it for about 15 years.

If you get it and she is a little gun shy ... get a sims slip on recoil pad, and she will love it.

God Bless

Same here Michael. I've had my 7mm-08 model 7 for about 10 years or so and I absolutely love it. Short, lightweight, flat shootin, and deadly. As far as your question, I shoot 140 gr bullets and the recoil is very tolerable. Great gun!

My 11 year old has one in a youth model with a limbsaver pad. He weighs 80lbs. and handles it easily. Has never complained about the recoil.

I was at the range last weekend and after making some noise with my 7 mm mag I shot a few rounds of my sons' 30-30 and 7-08. Recoil, what recoil ? Seriously though, if she has been shooting a .243 she should have no worries using the 7-08.

I don't like the idea of the "reduced recoil" ammo out there.
Why not? I'm planning on using it in my 7mm Rem Mag this fall. The Remmy Managed Recoil ammo has a power level about equal to the 7mm-08, and is reasonably accurate. That said, the recoil of the 7mm 140 gr MR rounds was pretty stout compared to my .243.

According to the Chuck Hawks site, recoil energy for the 100 gr. .243 is 8.8. Recoil energy for the 140 gr. 7-08 is 12.6.

The 7mm-08 will be slightly more than a 243 in the same weight gun, it will have more a sharp "jolt" compared to more of a push that the 243 has. At least thats my take on the two cartridges. If she can handle a 30-06 the 7mm-08 will not be a problem.

Believe it or not, the gun I own that I least like punching paper with is my 25WSSM. Its a Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker, and the stock is a lil too short for me, and that gun beats me more than my 7mm, or 270WSM.

What I'm getting at, if the gun doesn't fit you right, its going to be unpleasant shooting it.

Well based on your previous posts concerning the use of a 22 hornet for deer I could see where this might be a problem. For years common knolwdge was that a 7mm Mauser was the perfect Ladies rifle. Evidently The Ladies have been getting weaker . http://www.handloads.com/calc/recoil.asp
