I am currently looking to buy a .45, for self defense and just to shoot. I really like the glocks but wanted to know what you guys think? Any better brands?

I am onot a fan of Glocks at all.

If you are looking for a polymer handgun I would take a very hard look at the Springfield XD45.

Ruger Blackhawk.

Oh, you wanted a semi auto......

A good representation of a 1911 is never not a good idea...........

I just got a glock 45 and love it. I have a few 1911's and love em too. But this glock has became my favorate. Not big on the XD's. If I wanted all that stuff on it, just go with a 1911 kimber.

Any 1911. Springfield Armory is my favorite under $1000. Most are good. Glocks feel like Glocks. YMMV

If your looking for a CCW pistol get the Glock model 30, light and smallenough for all day carry and is about the most accurate pistol out of the box Ive seen. That and a good IWB or a snug belt slide holster with an untucked shirt and nobody will know you are packing, for the more formal dress get an IWB with a j-hook style belt mount and you can tuck your shirt in, just takes a few more seconds to pull it out. Others do make good reliable pistols, but just not something to conceal and carry all day in a 45 acp.

Money wise and for reliability and durability, you can't beat the Ruger. Ugly but solid as hell.
