Help with Remington 700 .243 win built in magazine?
Total Newbie here with this gun. I hunt birds with shotguns and deer with bow and blackpowder. In the offseason, I cleaned up (remove rust and mildew- reblued) an old Remington 700 .243 win that had been sitting in a closet for 15 years. I want to go target shoot, now that it is back to life. I don't have an owners manual...There is a metal plate on the bottom of thestock in front of the trigger guard. Is this a built in magazine to hold a couple of shells? If so, how do I remove it? Thanks for the help!

Not positive about the metal plate. I think it is a floorplate that will allow you to unload the magazine without cycling the bolt. If so, you will need toi load it through the action by opening the bolt and pressing the shells into the mag.
If this is the case, there should be something to push to open it. It may just be a metal plate on the botttom of the magazine.

If it is a Rem 700 ADL it will have the blind box magazine and if it is a Rem. 700 BDL will have the hinge floor plate. To remove them take the screws out and remove the bottom metal.

It is a hinged floor plate that covers the internal magazine. It is connected to the "bottom metal" which consists of the trigger guard and the magazine frame all as one piece.
Inside the trigger guard there is "button". Simply press this button forward and it will unlock the floor plate allowing it to swing free soyoucan empty all of the cartridges at one time instead of having to cycle them all through the rifle one at a time.
Quick tip. When you are unloading the cartridges from the magazine by opening the hinged floor plate... TURN THE RIFLE UP SIDE DOWN before you unlock the floor plate. This will keep you from dumping all of those cartridges on the ground.
