Which rifle is best?
I need some help. I am going to buy a new bolt action soon. I cannot decide which model to buy. Three choices are a Weatherby Mark V, a Sako 75, and a Sauer 202. I know evryone is different, but is there one that is just overall better in quality or accuracy? Thanks!

RE: Which rifle is best?
I wouldn' t give you a dime for a truckload of Weatherby mark V' s

RE: Which rifle is best?
I have a 340 Wby. Mag. Sporter Mark V that shoots .408" groups at 100 meters with 250 gr. Barnes XFB' s (if I do my part) @ 3060 f/s with 5197 ft/lb. The only thing I had done to this rifle is a trigger job. I don' t own a Sako or Sauer, so I can' t comment on their performance personally. Good luck.

I personally have owned two weatherby' s and was not impressed with the accurracy of either.I have however fired a couple of sako' s that shot very good groups.

As far as the truckload of Weatherbys, I' d give you $1,000 for each. They are without doubt amongst the most accurate rifles made, and they last and last and last.

RE: Which rifle is best?
You have a very hard choice here, they are all excellent rifles. As mentioned previously it should be based on the best fit for you and the best scope you can buy. I find caliber choice limited rifle availability and made the final choice easier. But putting that aside:
I own a Sauer 90 Deluxe and a Mark V Synthetic Stainless. They' re both excellent rifles that shoot well, with my nod going to the Sauer because of the features, detachable mag and pin/bolt release when the gun' s in safety (I like that and the Mark V doesn' t have it). When I bought the Sauer (used gun with very low miles on it) I was originally going to buy the Sako 75 Synthetic/ Stainless, but the Sauer was a better deal eventhough I didn' t want another rifle with a wood stock. If I had to make the choice today, being all guns brand new and equivalent (Money No Object, scope not a factor and Synthetic/Stainless would be my choice), I would go: 1) Sauer 202 (just because its a rare firearm, otherwise the Sako would be king) 2) Sako 75 3) Mark V Just my cheap two cents, 34 |
RE: Which rifle is best?
Sako is considered by most people as being THE top quality rifle producer. Go with Sako.

Sako. I own a weatherby in 300 mag, it has not been known for accuracy. It looks great, built wonderful, but it' s no tack driver, in fact I have never seen a weatherby that was a tack driver in the sense of the word. Sure maybe 1" groups but that is obtainable with many much less expensive factory CF' s. IF I was looking at those kinds of bucks, hands down the Sako would be getting the business, out of the 3 you mentioned.
