Default Tikka T3 Barrel quality

I purchased a new Tikka T3 a few weeks ago in 308. I am generally verypleased with the rifle . Some features(bolt shroud) are not to my liking but even the bottom plastic is growing on me.One of the features that is impressive is the relative smoothness of the barrel interior. I have yet to run a brush in the barrel after firing 15 rounds thru it. I cleaned it after each ofthe first 5 shots with patchout and accelerator and then when I got home used regular wipeout foamto see how much junk was there. There was no blue residue on the patch. I then tried CR-10 and let it sit for a few and no blue as well. Based on its accuracy at 100 yards with plain jane Hornady 150 grain interlock bullets it is a keeper. Next time I go to the range I plan on documenting the group sizes this rifle shoots.

I got one last fall. I have the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 300 WSM. Mine cleans up so easily. I sat at the range and heated it up when i fired 40 rounds in one sitting and it still cleaned up better and 10x easierthen my Remington 30-06. I didnt like the plastic mag at first but it grew on me also. Ill be getting more Tikka rifles in the near future.

I have a discontinued Tikka Whitetail Hunter in 7mmMag.I was impressed when I sighted it in.My only complaint is it's such a big rifle,I guess the Ruger M-77's have spoiled me in that respect.

Good luck with it OEH.

Tikka uses hammer forging just like Remington, but there's a world of quality difference in the end product.

That is the awful truth and the gun costs less

The barrels are so good on the Tikkas, that in the 3500 rounds i put thru the tube of my 243, I only cleaned the bore twice. And it still shot very very well for me.

Agreed. I have a T3 light SS in .270 and can group 5 different bullets within 3" at 100 yds. The best is the 130g BTSP Federal Vital-Shock, which I can place 5 shots under 1".

It cleans up much quicker than my old model 700.

I have a T-3 in 25-06 that just shoots scary good with4 different factory loads. I know people that have spent way over a 1000 dollars on a rifle and many, many hours working up hand loads that cannot get their rifles to shoot as tight a group at 100 yards asmyT-3 will with Factory Hornady 117gr interlocks. And I paid 358 dollars for it years ago. It amazes me that a rifle in this price range can shoot so well.
