Win 70 Stealth VS Rem 700 VLS
 

If you were going to by a .308 for more of less a fun target shooting gun, which would you choose and why? Both are built for target shooting and in the same ball-park for price.

I' m going to buy a stealthin 22-250 if I can find one. According to my brother, a highway patrolman, the gun of choice right now for long range shooting is the model 70 stealth. The swat guys he has talked to swear it is by far the most accurate rifle they have shot and the trigger is good right out of the box. I' m fairly sure this is going to turn into a knit-pick match between the remington and winchester camps, but this is what the guys that depend on long range accuracy as a matter of life and death are saying. No I won' t give you any names and bios of who said it either. Let the crucification begin.

I would go with the Rem., but my preference would be an older one without the bolt lock gizmo.

Mez, I checked out the trigger on the Stealth after work today, it was set at an estimated 8-10 lbs. Just as hard as the stock VLS. One thing I do like about the Stealth is that the barrel is free-floated right out of the box, and the VLS does take some work.

Can you find a stealth? Have one found in a 223 which i don' t want and a 308 which i don' t want. Have a friend with an FFL that I go through that treats me pretty good. His suppliers only have it in the 308 and really have no idea when to expect more. They tell him it is one of the hardest rifles to come by these days. He doesn' t order enough to get put on a waiting list so he has to call daily to try to get one.

I' ll check today to see what calibers of Stealth we have in the system. I haven' t even looked. Just noticed we had the one on display.

I can' t comment on the winchester, I' m sure it is a fine rifle.
I have a 700 VSSF, in .22-250, and I think you' d have a hard time finding a more accurate gun...no matter what make. It will shoot a 1 hole, 1/4" group (5 shots)at 100 yds, with factory loads. I topped it with a Leupold, had the trigger done, and most groundhog' s within 500 better watch out. My buddy has the exact same gun and it is a tack driver too. Can' t complain about the 700 at all. My 22-250 Stealth is a good shooter, but like any factory rifle, it came with a lawyer-proof trigger. $50 and a trip to a gunsmith fixed that. I' ve also heard the Ruger varmint rifle is a good.
