270 load for moose

Hi i am going moose hunting this year and will be using a 270win. I was wondering what a good load would be out of this gun for moose.

If you reload I would try 160 gr. nosler partitions. if you don't go for a good bonded 150.

165 Nosler Partition. A 270 will kill them but you may be asking for problems using that small of a caliber for moose. From what I have read if youmake a good bullet placement onone that is relaxed you shouldn't have any problems but if you shoot one spooked or all excited coming into a call it will probably take you 4 or more well placed shots to put him on the ground with a 270.

150 or 160gr premium bullets, not sure if Aframe makesa bullet for the .270

but nosler partitions, barnes TSX,

I think id pick aframe or the barnes,

I agree with the comment about the .270 being small for moose. If its your only option I would say the Barnes TSX (tripple shock X) and make sure you're close enough to deliver 1800 - 2000 ft lbs of energy.

I would give this a try it delivers 2000lbs of KE to 300 yards. I would not be worried about using the 270 with a 150 grain Nosler partition bullet. The fishing guide I use in canada is also a moose guide and he has recommended the 270 with Nosler partions or Bear Claws to his clients for many years with good results.

I've shot truckloads of moose with nothing other than 130gr Hornady handloads.Try 57gr of IMR 4831 in Win cases with Fed or CCI mag primers. From the muzzle to a 1/4 mile...................................Harold *You can use the 130gr Partitions but IMO they arn't needed

dude peope use a 6.5X55 and 243 for moose, a good 140gr accubond or the 130gr tSX is plenty, thing is you will hit what your shooting at with a 270 instead of flinching, you could always go to the Hornady light mag round in 130 or 150gr and get 200fps faster also.

my sister shot her moose w/ a 6.5x55 140gr barnes. 932lbs not huge but decent and he never even took a step ide say any bullet of good construction would do the trick. moose arent really that tough. just a smelly old swamp donkey

I'm also quite partial to a 6.5x55 with 42gr of IMR 4350 under a 160 Hornady and a mag primer.Never have recovered a bullet yet and you can eat right up to the bullet hole!...................Harold *only shot deer with the 140's but I'm sure they work.

I was going to say with this or for that matter with any number of other bigger caliber rifles with more power, stick with on of the excellent partition or bonded core bullets (e.g Nosler, Hornady)165 gr.
I've been told by an old Finlander, as lately as this morning, by a fellow who while stationed in Alaska in the 50's hunted Moose there. He said a double lung shot that carries all the way through will take a bull Moose down. He took to big bulls that way.

I think a couple key things are that the bullet needs to hit with enough force with a bullet that'll retain most of it's original weight both to take out the lungs and through and through to bleed it our faster. A Moose needs the big lung capacity to go through what they do. Take that from them and they will come down.

The 270win and 150gr partitions is a very effective and time proven moose round. Kills hundreds of each year in Ontario. I do perfer a larger caliber like the 30-06/308, or 35whelen/358win, but the 270win has benn doing it for years.

I'm just wondering... How many moose does it take to make a "truck load"??

I'd use the 130-grain Barnes TTSX bullet in your 270 Win. I'm buying a 270 WSM for the wife this year to use for moose and caribou hunting and the above mentioned bullet is what I'll be reloading for her rifle. Now I just have to wait for new the Winchester rifles to show up!
