Long range pistol option? in .308?
I immediately thought of that weatherby pistol, but the biggest caliber offered in that is 7mm-08, and our regs state we need .30cal or larger so I was thinking a .308 would be a heck of a pistol round....perhpas that wby pistol can be rebarreled? in .308?
or maybe even the .338 federal...
anyone know of a pistol made in such cartridges? or any other pistol suggestions of 30cal or bigger, looking for more of a long range scoped setup than a .45 etc....something I could shoot 200yds etc...?
Or would something like that .500S&W be more of a long range pistol setup? maybe not in 500 but 460 etc....?

RE: Pistol in .308?
the T/C encore has 15 inch barrels chambered in .308 and .30-06, (others as well). i often wondered what the recoil would be like. i have a 12 inch .454 casull barrel for my encore and it can be handfull, depending on the load used.

The only legal handguns are centerfire revolvers or centerfire single-shot
handguns of .30 caliber or larger with a minimum barrel length of 4 inches.
It shall be unlawful to take or attempt to take white-tailed deer by the
use of semi-automatic handguns, muzzleloading handguns, or handguns
altered to allow for shoulder firing.
The only legal ammunition for a centerfire handgun is (1) a bottleneck
centerfire cartridge of .30 caliber or larger with a case length not exceeding
1.4 inches, or (2) a straightwalled centerfire cartridge of .30 caliber
or larger, with no minimum case length; both of which must be available
with the published ballistic tables of the manufacturer showing a capability
of at least 500 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle.
These are the regs for Illinois, just about like Michigans.

RE: Pistol in .308?
Competitor makes a single shot in 308. Savage made the Strikers in 308, Remington XP100 too. Magnum Research Lone Eagle, Whichita made one, I know there are others but can't remember right now.
I have a Lone Eagle in 35 Remington. That is me and the Lone Eagle and my first handgun deer 2006.
The Lone Eagle is out of production but the Competitor is the evolution of the Lone eagle, they are an improved version if you will.
