7mm------ model 700 or the 70

Any thouhgts to the comparison of the remington 700 and the winchester 70?

I don' t think you' d go wrong with either. It really depends on fit and features you like.

I looked at both in 7 Rem Mag, I chose the Rem 700 BDL - DM. The main reasons were: felt real good (like an extension of my arm), never owned a Model 70 but own a few BDL' s (very pleased), Detachable Mag(DM) and got a much better deal(price).

I have been leaning toward Winchester Model 70 lately. Good luck.

If you' re concerned with quality, go with Winchester.

You can' t go wrong with either gun! I' d prefer the M70 though.
I have two Winchesters, a .308 and a 7MM Rem. mag. I would not hesitate to buy another one!

i have a winchester model 70 and 3 remington model 700' s and they are both great reliable firearms , the only thing i don' t like about the new model 700' s though is that new bolt safety that works with those L keys . if for some reason you lose the keys and the action is locked shut , your stuck if you can' t get new keys .

P.S. have you considered a savage 111 , they' re very accurate and can take a beating in the proper model

Both the Remington 700 and Winchester M-70 are great rifles.Either you choose would be an excellent choice.I have a Ruger M-77" All Weather" chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. I' m quite impressed with it' s performance.Because of Remington' s new bolt lock (Klinton Key)I would steer away from it,plus Remington' s quality has slipped over the last several years.Good Luck in your selection.

Both are nice guns. I personally like the Remingtons. I' ve had nothing but great guns in the 700. You need to go compare both and see what you like...it doesn' t matter what we like best. :)
Alot of folks complain of the Rem' s bolt lock and losing keys...etc..., but honestly, if I had a new one....no way I' d lock it....ever. So this is really not a problem, IMO.

Both good....But contrary to other posts, If you want quality....get the 700.

basserman,

I noticed the extra " 0" in 700. Was that a typo? I think you meant " 70" for quality comparison.

Read the above Poll. Get the Remington.

When the Remington offers a 3-position safety I' ll start recommending them.....until then....it' s Winchester all the way!!

Yes, read the above poll and then do a search for all the recalls (long list, believe me!) on Remington' s. They' re safe guns. Honestly!:D

I own one of each, it goes back to the original reply, which ever one fits you better or possibly which one can you get for the best deal.

3 position safety-who cares? I used to hate them but have gotten used to them.
Quality?-About the same in either one.
Bolt Lock?-Who would ever use that in the first place?

I have owned more Rem than Win, and they have been more accurate. However, that is not necessarily true for individual gun vs. individual gun.

I walked into my local gunshop just two days ago to purchase a Model 70 Featherweight in .308. I was really psyched about getting this rifle and my wife told me to get it for my birthday. So there I was in the shop with the rifle in front of me. I picked it up, worked the bolt, opened the floorplate, examined the fit/finish, and walked out without it. What a disappointment.

Let' s put it this way...............
If you had the opportunity to pick up a brand new Model 70 Coyote in .308, out the door for $475............would you jump on it???

Of if you could get a Savage 10FP-LE2 in .308 for thew same price......would you???

RE: 7mm------ model 700 or the 70

I would walk out with the Model 70 Coyote obviously.
