i shoot a 270 wsm, will take any animal in north america but if your shots are past 300 the 300 wsm or 7mm mag are good choices but they all can damage alot of meat at short range. if you can reload try the 6.5 coyote (8mm mauser necked down to 6.5) or the 6.5 timberwolf (300 win mag necked down to 6.5)

I have used my 308 to kill nearly every game animal I have taken. (Admitably not as much as some others) It worked very well on an 90lb doe in KY as well as a 765lb bull moose in northern Vermont, both were one shot and deal sealed. For what its worth I would stick with the 308.

7mm mag, just a little more than a .270 for the longer distances and it shoots a little heavier grain bullet for the bigger stuff.
I don't own one, but the charts look pretty good.
I have a .270 and a .30-06 for the same reasons your looking for, just like guns and if I had my choice I'd have one of everything...

Moose aren't that tough. I'd say 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag.

I am a 30-06 fan but it is too close balistically to the 308. I would buy 270WSM or 300 WSM or stick with the 308 and use this for the moose.

Point blank range is still over 250 yards and KE levels are over 2000 LBS at 300 yds. It would have no problem taking out a moose to 300 yds.

I agree that the .308 is fine for use on moose and elk but if you want to get another rifle I would get one in a higher power level such as a .300 or 338 mag. If you are recoil sensative a .338-06 or .35whelen would work.
