RE: Good Wild Boar Gun
BC, Sorry to hear about that WW trigger. I was on the phone the other day with DRC and spoke to them about a replacement trigger and getting the action smoothed. The price they quoted was pretty darn good. PM me if you want more info. They have their own version of a replacement trigger as well. I was going to do my own work on it but after that quote ...no way

30-30 is FANTASTIC, if not overkill.Because ofits ease to maneuver in the tight spots, and its quick follow up shots, its a great brush gun. Pigs hides are over rated and they are no tougher to kill than deer in my opinion. The only problem i have seen is, when using corelokts, sometimes the entry wounds and exit wounds are small and seal up because of the fat/lard in the hide, which in turn makes it hard to track if they dont drop on the spot. Because of this, when using somethingotherthan a 30-30 (usually270), i use ballistic tips to ensure a large exit wound that doesnt close up and they havealmost alwaysdropped in their tracks.I'm a firm believer in goingbigger if you are in doubt, butpigs arent super tough critters with super tough hides so I haventfound it neccessary to go too large, but if you feel more comfortable/confident with a larger caliber, go for it. Confidence in yourself and your rifles abilities are a large part of shooting accurately.

If you really want to thump them take oldelkhunter's advice. A 'little' Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 will definately put them in their place and is nice to carry. Best to try and find an older one that is ported. I love mine and I don't think I will ever get rid of it.

Hey the 45/70 would be great for those big Saskatchewan bucks you have up there. The 1895G is short and weighs about 7 lbs. And to the contrary of some who thinks the G isn't accurate, they are wrong. I can group like a cloverleaf at 150 yards using 405gr. shells. I have taken countless number of black bears and one grizzly bear with my 1895G.

Most of my hogs have been killed with .50 muzzleloaders. Some have been killed with my .22 Hornets and.223. When a hog is hit in a good place with the bullet from the military 5.56mm M193 round they die as if hit by lightning.
