RE: Mini 30
I pretty much agree with everyone here. But I must add, I have killed some large mule deer with my Mini-30, all within about 125 yards. Accuracy is not pin point, but it'll get you withing a small dinner plate sized area target. That's all I need to hit the center mass of a deer.
I posted my opinion on the "jungle gun" question on this post a few minutes ago. Before I even saw this post, I said the Mini-30 would be an excellent semi-auto "jungle gun", due to the short range (about 15 yards max) of open area jungle. The 7.62x39mm round is a devastating round on wild game, not to mention man. Just look at all of our brave Americans that died by the thousands when hit with that round. I've killed everything from Javelina, deer, coyotes and even a full grown cow for slaughter at the butcher. Works like a champ to about 125 yards. |
RE: Mini 30
There are many other good 30 cals out there.

RE: Mini 30
a 7.62 X 39 is basically a 30-30 with a smaller bullet. Saskatchawan eh well then you'll know it is definatly a waste of money cause it drops after 100 yards. So get something like a 270 or 25-06 and I promise you will be a lot happier.

RE: Mini 30
I don't know about legality or price in Canada but one of the better AK's like the Bulgarian one, will shoot as good or better than most Mini-30's and is about $100 cheaper and so are the mags. Only problem is the sights ain't the best for a rifle. I had one that would group 1-1/2" to 2" at 100yds, with eastern block ammo, but got a case of the stupids and sold it. Oh another thing about the Mini-30, unless Ruger changed it the bore is sized for .308 not .312 bullets. one problem with this gun is it was thrown together to use up the barrel blanks they had on hand after the .308 XGI Carbine "SNAFU". Thats why the fold down sights on the first ones were way-off as they were still calibrated for .223.<img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>
