Sako feeding issues
 

Hello everyone, I've been having problems with my Sako 75 Hunter reliable feeding. The caliber is in 25-06. The detachable magazine holds 5 rounds. I'm the original owner of the gun. When I load it fully up, I'll chamber the first round and fire. When I go to chamber the second round, it almost always catches. The only way to avoid this is if I cycle the bolt extremely fast, even then it'll occasionally catch. This doesn't happen with any other rounds. I'm not really a big fan of this detachable magazine anyways, since it's a hybridmade for several different rounds, including the 30-06, so the 25-06 rounds have a decent gap between the tip of the round and the end of the magazine, but I don't know if this contributes to the feeding issue.

What should I do, send it off to a gunsmith, mess with the magazine,or contact Sako? I don't know if the rifle is still under warranty, and I'd prefer not to pay for shipping to Finland if possible. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to sell the rifle if it can be fixed (for a reasonable price), butI don't want to hunt with it if I can't trust it.

25-06 should not have an issue. They will not make you ship it to finland. Only MD.

I would first identify where it catches. Might just be catching on the detach mag. Which I have a feeling where it is catching.

Is is only one brand of ammo? Reason I ask is, on my STW which is also a 75, if I cycle slow, it might catch and only if I didn't deburr my brass. It catches sometimes, on the brass mouth. If I deburr, it I never see the issue.

Ship it to MD. They will probably cover the repair N/C. Their gunsmith(s) are stateside. They have a 3 year warranty but I spoke to them about an issue with another gun and they told me they service all Sako rifles built not just 75's . It might be the feed lips on the mag are not right. I am sure they will make it right. My 75 is about the slickest feeding rifle I have ever owned and it's a WSM.

Yea, I am kinda surprised he's having issues iwth a 25-06, aren't you? About the slickest load besides 300 H&H.

Considering the rifle doesn't have any rails and dependent on a proper magazine then yeah I am surprised it made it out of the factory. That is unless he is using crap ammo.

I am doing ok these days real busy and not a lot of time for anything

I'd suggest selling that Sako to me and buying a Tikka T3. You'll be better off....:D

I discovered the problem I was having with the magazine. I would load up the rifle 5+1, by loading the chamber and ejecting the mag to load up the 5th round. By doing this, when I ejected the round in the chamber, if I pulled the bolt back slowly it would push the end of the next round down, and fail to feed, which was fixed by cycling the bolt quickly. I don't encounter any feeding problems unless I load it up 5+1, so I'll just do 4+1 from now on. Just for future reference, what is the number for Maryland, I couldn't find it anywhere?
