Is my Winchester Model 94 a carbine?
According to the serial number, it was made in 1966. (Post '64. )
I am wanting to buy some better iron sights for it and many sites distinguish between Model 94 and Model 94 carbine. I don't want to buy the wrong thing. It has a 20" barrel. Also says it "Must have Ramped Front Sight". I know the front and rear sights are mounted in3/8" dovetails. What have I got? And is it a Model 94 Carbine? |

ORIGINAL: 338 Yes .. The rifle has a longer barrel I know a carbine is a general term for a shorter barrel, but all '94's in 30-30 had the 20" barrel. What about the "Ramped front sight"? I think a dovetail indicates it IS NOT a ramped front sight. |

Call Winchester and give them the S# and they can tell you.

Your gun is a carbine. The carbines had 20" barrels. The rifles had 26" barrels. If your front sight blade dovetails into the barrel directly, it doesn't have a ramp. Ifthe blade itselfdovetails into a ramped feature on the barrel, it does.

Your question was "is my winchester model 94 a carbine?" And I replied "yes" so that means it is a carbine

IF it has a 20" barrel, and looks like this, it is the Model 94 carbine.....
![]() Note that the rear sight is mounted in a 3/6" dovetailIN THE BARREL. But the front sight is mounted in a 3/8" dovetail in a hooded ramp........ |
