Which 300 magnum would you say has the least recoil.

.300 wsm, least powder....though alotta times they are in a lightweight setup....then it may not be the least....

I'd list them from least to greatets.....

.300 wsm, .300 win mag, .300 wby, .300 rum

why do you ask? I think any adult male should be able to handle a 300 mag without much worry, but then again I'm tough. haha.

I'd stick to a .270 or .30-06 for a while then......if not a .243, 7mm-08, 308....

I remember when my .270 kicked like a mule.....now my .300 is manageable, that .270 now....feels like a cap gun/.22 course I was 5'2 and about 110lbs when I first started shooting it, and it kicked!

All guns kick though, and learning how to shoot a rifle that's going to kick is probably the first thing you need to learn.....ie to not flinch....

Yeah i've put about 250 rounds through my 25-06 so far and i've gotten pretty confident with it but being myself i cant stop thinking about the next gun i need.I decided that i needed to bridge the gap betweena deer andsome africanplains game before i go to africa.I was looking at the 7mms and the 300s.I might try to arange a deal w/ my dad so he gets himself a new gun and ill get his savage 30-06.

I hate to bring up the word muzzle break on this forum because it seems to start up a bunch a controversy but what are your thoughts on a 300 mag with a break and a limbsaver. Or should i just stay away from Magnums all together?

Nothing wrong with a brake if it is needed, but a good recoil pad like a limbsavers does help a ton. If you are worried about recoil just go with a 7RM. I've found that my 7 w/ 140 TSX at about 3300fps can do anything the 300 mags can do with less recoil and a little flatter.

A pad does help a lot, my first premo pad was a pachmyar so now I'm sold on those.....I'm sure they work just about as good as one another.

I'm no longer a muzzle brake fan, though they do reduce felt recoil.

A pad, muzzle brake, and more weight/heavier gun all help. I've heard a mercury reducer does more than just add weight.....somehow provides more cushion, though I'm unsure how true that is.

Why are you in a rush to get a .300 mag? or just a mag for that reason?

I think all of the .300 mags are good though, the WSM, Win Mag, RUM, Wby mag. hard to go wrong with any.

Use a .30-06 til you get bigger......

Felt recoil can be impacted by several different things one being gun weight and actual stock design. I haven't seen anything on the different manufacturers and how they compared kick wise in the same calibers. I wonder if certain makes are better than others. Obviously the light weights will have more felt recoil due to less mass taking up the force. A 6 pound rifle would be nice to carry but probably painful to shoot especially on the range in a mag caliber. Anyone seen a comparison between Win, Rem, Ruger, Browning, Kimber, Weatherby, Stevens and any of the other common makes?

That'd be correct, provided all were fired in a gun of the same weight. But I would say that recoil of all of them, in guns weighing the same, are so close to one another that the difference is not worth discussing!

A good recoil pad helps a lot. A muzzle brake will take away a lot of felt recoil but it makes the rifle pretty loud.. You can shoot from a leadsled type rest when your just shooting and you won't even notice the recoil when your just shooting at an animal.
