Henry rifles
I was wondering if anyone owned a Henry 22 and what they thought of it. Thinking seriously about buying one.

RE: Henry rifles
Spend a little more and buy a Marlin 39. You'll appreciate it more. I will not buy a lever gun that has a zinc metal cover over its guts it that is sprayed black in a paint booth.

RE: Henry rifles
I've had one for several years and have found it to be a very accurate rifle with no foul-ups so far. I think they are great.

I agree with Elkhunter I would get the Marlin though I haven't heard anything bad about the Henry. It is just the Marlin is a lot better gun.

RE: Henry rifles
My dad has a marlin, has had it for many years in fact it was the gun I learned to shoot with over 30 years ago. Nice gun no doubt. I used to have one of the basic henry .22's and it was a great gun as well. The only thing I didn't like about it was the plastic barrel ring, other than that it was a really nice gun. Decent trigger and an ultra smooth action. And it is probably one of the most accurate .22's I have owned out of the box. I sold it to a guy at work so I could buy a 17HMR and I sort of wish I would have kept it. I only payed $190 for mine at walmart though, I don't know what they cost now.
If you can afford the marlin, it is better quality gun and will hold its value better, but there is nothing wrong with the Henry I really enjoyed mine. Paul |
RE: Henry rifles
The Marlin 39is a great choice and I'll have one one day, made circa 1967,but I dread that day coming like no other day. It'll be the day my dad is gone.....
My son has a Henry .22 youth model and I can't say I wouldn't want the exact same rifle for myself as a short, lightweight, easy packing camp rifle....though I'd sooner have it chambered in .22mag for my purposes. I am envious none the less. My son's rifle is scoped with a little 4X Bushnell and it shoots and functions well enough to need stock in an ammo company...... |
RE: Henry rifles
I bought a Henry rifle just because I always wanted a Henry rifle. A little pricey compared to other lever action .22's. I've never had any problems with it and it shoots smooth.
