I've had to handlap the bolts on several kimders due to extremely rough bolt operation and another issue is excessive play in bolts.

Kimber builds a lot of quality into their guns...and then they turn around and forget/screw up the DUMBEST things. Their QC is erratic at best.

If you're talking the Montana, its light, whippy barrel made it easy to carry, but it wasn't too accurate. However, one of those $20 Limbsaver barrel gizmos made it shoot sub-MOA.

I've got a Classic in .308. Very nice wood and a good shooter. Topped it with a Swaro AV 3-9 X 36 in lightweight Talley's. Nice and light... a breeze to carry up and down mountains. I've had absolutely no issues with it what-so-ever.

They are a crap shoot and should never be ordered sight unseen. If you can find one and put your hands on and buy it for 650 then buy it, just go over every detail. They are a nice pointing rifle and are a superb deer rifle. As for minuses their bolts are rough as a corncob and if you use them in miserable weather like i did one January they will rust and the stock will get a bit beat up. I wish they would use another type of Walnut other then Claro . They also need to put a more weather resistant oil finish on their guns and use another blueing formula and put on more of a satin finish on the metal. If you find the bolt is too rough you can send it in to Kimber. Every 84m,8400 or could have stoodd a skim bed of epoxy. They advertise a pillar and glass bedding but it is done on a master action and not the gun action you just purchased The trigger is a very good one. Kimber will back up their rifles so if you do have a problem they will fix it and fast. There is a 243 at a local gunshop as well as a 7 wsm that have sat on the shelves for too long.:D

I have four of the Kimber of Oregon rifles. My father bought me three of them for a college graduation present. IMO they are second to none in the factory category.

I have one of the new Kimber of New York rifles. It is a Long Master Classic in 223 Reminton. It is a fine rifle. It is clearly not the rifle my Oregon rifles are. But I paid considerably more for the Oregon rifles over 25 years ago(actually my dad did). The rifle shoots well and has operated flawlessly. I paid $900 for it. I have had a couple of people offer to buy it from me for a profit. If you can buy a 308 for $650 then buy it. That is a steal. Tom.

I have shot the Montana in 308. It shot MOA 4 of 5 times for me. I was shooting 3 shot groups. Unlike some of the other posts the rifle actionI shot was smooth as could be. My buddy who is a crack shot just got the 338 Federal in the Montana and could only get 2" groups with that rifle but that was his first attempt at the range and has only tried one round.

I do like that cartridge but the 7 wsm this guy is trying to sell has the plainest claro walnut stock I have ever seen on a kimber. It looks like they sanded it smooth and put one coat of oil on it. If I were to buy it the first thing I would do is bring it to a Stock GuyI know and redo the finish. I shouldn't have to do that for 869+tax out the door.
